If I don't go on a Tuna trip this weekend I have my tags and would like to get a buck or bear, haven't scouted a whole lot but I'd be driving up in my car and camping out then hiking somewhere in the D3-5 zones. ANyone have any suggestions as to a place off the beaten path I could go, that would be car friendly? PM me if you like. Thanks.
Company always welcome.
D3-5 zone Anyone know where I can drive in and camp?

Steph, D3 take Marysville LaPorte Rd off Hwy 20 northeast of Marysville. go thru LaPorte to Little Grass Valley resevoir. Camp there. Fish for trout in the lake, buy a bear tag and leave hotdogs on the camp table. Get maps of the area so you won't get lost. Some good country there. Most everyone there drives around, but a person could do good if you got off the road. Ed

Steph,
Winton rd. is in West Point, There is plenty of roads
to drive there.
You can drive them (7N08) all the way to Arnold.
Up hwy 4 there are many forest roads in national forest.
Stop at the forest service to buy a map, the people are very helpfull there.

We met at Knocked-Up's Bar-BQ.
Just came back from Winton Road area after 4 days fishing Blue Creek and the North Fork Mokelumne River.
Still pretty warm for the deer to yet make their migration.
I'm planning to go back as soon as a storm comes through and the temp goes down. Last weekend the nights barely got into the low 50's (at 5000ft)
Make certain with a forest service map and /or using geocommunicator (sticky in public lands forum) There is a massive amount of a private forest plantation that is off limits to camping. Logging roads are generally well maintained and usually numbered but verify with maps.
Careful,
The place is CRAWLING with road hunters after Tree Squirrels!
Saw Mountain Quail, Red Tailed Hawks, and a Rubber Boa.
A Local told me this is a big year for bear and he's never seen or heard so many coyotes!
