I'm in love with my .223 varmint zapper, it's dialed in. BUT, I have another complete lower that's just sitting around. I've sold off the .22 & 7.62X39 uppers I had previously.

I have two 30.06 rifles, a model 70 & a 742. I also have a 30/30 lever gun. And too many .22s (if that's possible). I also have a nice .243!!

I've been looking at a .17 HMR by Alexander Arms, along with their 6.5 Grendel. But I'm just undecided about it all. Honestly, I'm not really interested in another .223 upper.

Was wondering what you all would suggest? I was thinking about buying a complete upper, but I do have a stripped Spikes also... Trying to keep this moderately priced, like under $6/0?

Thoughts?

There is an ointment for that itch.....

I really like the 6.5 Grendel. Or maybe a 6x45 (6mm bullet in 223 case) would be nice with some 75gr or 87gr V-max's. One of these days I'll build an AR and these are my top 2 choices. 6.8 is cool too, but I think the 6.5G is a little better.

I'm not on board with the 300 Blackout crowd (.308 bullet in 223 case), would prefer a 7.62x39 over the blackout.

Check out some of the cartridges that Mike is making at D-Tech for his uppers. The 6 mm DTI round based off of the 6.8 case sure looks good.

I have a D-Tech 243 WSSM upper that works great on coyotes.

Thanx guys, I'll check those out. I guess what I'm concerned about is getting something that is too close to what I already have. Like the 243 & 243 WSSM. And as I don't reload for rifle some of the wildcat cartridges are out.

I appreciate the responses and look forward to some more discussion.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

I'd love one of those, but don't have the cash... :(

The more I look I'm leaning towards the Alexander Arms 17HMR.

I agree.

I have a savage 17 hmr and that thing is a miniature sniper rifle. Out to 200 yards I could shoot the nuts off a fly and it was only $180 at the time. I suggest getting a bolt action 17 hmr.

A .450 bushmaster would be a lot of fun. The one I reaaalllyyy want is the .300 Olympic. It's a WSSM case necked up to take a .308 caliber bullet.
My guns are mine, they aren't for sale, and I only give guns to people that I really like. So I guess the government is **** out of luck.

Yeah, one of those big bores would be awesome! I've done some more thinking and have decided to build myself a 204. I painted my extra upper after doing some grinding on it. This build will take awhile since I'm pretty strapped for cash. What helped me with my decision was watching "Predator Nation with Fred Eichler". I REALLY dig my 223 but want a squirrel zapper that shoots like a laser beam! So I'll start stashing away a couple bucks here and there and piece this thing together.

Thanx again everyone! I appreciate the input.

I like the olympic cartridge but I"m not a big fan of their rifles. I have though about building an upper for that cartridge but haven't really committed to it.

I've been a BAAAADD boy! I just order every part need to complete my 204 upper... Everything's being shipped 2 day, and I bought ALL good parts. Soooo, it should be together and shooting next week! I couldn't help myself! The money I was waiting on came in, and I got more than enough to pay my bills. Here we go again!
