In my opinion the best way to hunt is with a crossbow. There more accurate than bow & arrows, throwing knives, & spears. The range is better & it can be modified to be scoped or red dot sights. It's silent so animals don't hear you when you mess up & when you hit them there is no led poisening.

hahaha. Only in the movies are crossbows silent. They are typically louder than a compound bow.

I have been hunting here in California with a crossbow since 2007. They definitely have unique challenges. I would not consider my Excalibur Equinox quiet.

If we are talking about hunting and being accuarate every time I would rather have a gun then a crossbow, if game is the most important thing. If I am looking to extend my season for archery season I only get a bow...at least that's my understanding of Cali hunting laws as a new hunter. Crossbows are illegal to use during bow season unless handicapped and special provisions. My buddy wanted to use a crossbow while I used my recurve during archery season so looked into it...then again I am happy with shooting my bow every day for practice and going out for small game as a new hunter....

Most hunters who bowhunt that I have talked to only pick it up to extend their seasons, as soon as they get the chance they change to a gun.....again that's most...

Dave, he was a flash in the pan. He apparently already knew everything so he didn't need our help. He wouldn't want to hear anything from us as we are obviously ignorant and his facts were correct.

The Hell you say! Next thing you know you're going to tell me that revolvers don't hold 18 rounds and lever actions don't hold 50 rounds! Or that the old single actions that were carried with one chamber empty can't still shoot 6 rounds

You forgot about the side by sides that never need reloading and can shoot shot well over 400yds. Using one side of binocholars for a quick scope.
I want to see his cross bow croups at 20 yrds. I'll go to 30 yrds .

Having hunted with a crossbow over on Catalina I can attests to their hitting power, but I would not call them quiet enough to not spook game. A good compound bow is every bit as accurate as a crossbow, and if I were Thumper, I would add a stick bow to that list too.

Crossbows do have good power but they are not quiet even with limb and string silencers.  One of my hunting buddies shoots a 70lb compound and it's a little quieter than my crossbow.  He's also very accurate.  It's all about the shooter.  He practices often and it shows.

 

If you want quiet, try a compound between 40 and 50 lbs with string and limb silencers.

Nice deer. Nice shot Most guys would never take that shot But that is a good spot to hit the pumper.
