Hi,

I scored a lottery tag for the Tehama area, late season buck hunt in late October. Never hunted this area before. Just got back from D6 last week, and was successful.

Does anyone have any tips for hunting this area? I do have a map, although its not the best. Are there any areas that are better than others? Should I be setting up an ambush, or stalk hunt? I was thinking maybe one of the ridges would be a good spot to start...

Any info is much appreciated...

I used to hunt that area years ago and always did good there. I used to sit stands in the early morning and stalk the rest of the day. The herd there is migratory pray for a snow storm, then go find a good deer trail and sit down wind on it. Take some binoculars and wear out some shoe leather until you find an area that has lots of deer. Then hunt there. I hear that a lot of the country I used to hunt is gated off now. I used to hunt higher up on Turner Mountain early in the year. The big bucks will not migrate down until the snow hits. There is still always local bucks in that area that will be there and stay there. I used to beat the brush pretty hard right above the area you are talking about. I always got a deer, but think I tried harder than most people do, or I was just always lucky my friends and family said. I think a guy makes his own luck when it comes to hunting.
