I took Sophie out for an early morning romp today. We walked across the pastures to the far levy just as it was getting light, hoping we werent seen on our way in I set the caller up at about 70 yds on an old tree stump. I started playing Vole squeaks at low volume gradually increasing the sound. In less that 6 mins, Sophie let out a low growl. Here was a mangey YOY Coyote only about 10 feet from the call! I muted the caller and the Coyote gave me an easy broadside chipshot. Looking to the right there was another YOY that had come in as well that I hadnt noticed trotting away from us. I woofed at it and it turned broadside at about 120 yds. I then remembered that I hadnt put another round iin the chamber! :doh[1]:
I worked the bolt as quiet as possible but the Coyote had already started trotting away. My next bark didnt stop him so I took the only shot I had. Texas Heart shot. The 55gr Nosler with a stout load of Win 760 put it right down. This one was even mangier than the first! I think that these were the last 2 of the 4 pups I saw a while back. Glad to get rid of these Mangey Critters! Here are a couple pics. I hope everyone has a Great Holiday!

Great job on coyotes. Doubles with a bolt gun don't come that often, at least for me. Congrats.

Awesome job, Grant, on not only slaying a double, but also improving the "herd". lol ... And Sophie is still cracking me up with her "warning growls". That is too cool, and wayyyy better than many "human" partners would be.

Good job Grant,
We should have taken Sophie the day before,
she would have let us know before we saw the
one way off as we were walking in.

Thanks Guys! Yeah having Sophies extra senses seems to help, and she loves going out. I dont really know yet if she understands what we are doing yet, but her enthusiasm lets me know that she enjoys it.

Shoot-it, its a Foxpro Fury. Its not really much bigger than the FX5 I had. I think it just looks bigger in the picture. Maybe cus the Coyotes are so small? :rofl2:
DirtyDave, I wish you luck with your dog too. Its sure fun having a Dog along for company. I have read that starting them young really helps. Sophie is going on 8 mos old. I sure hope she stays interested.

Way to go. Pet sophie for me .
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.
