First, Happy New Year! I can't believe that the time is already upon me that I had to put in for the Wyoming Elk draw. Application deadline is Jan-31st. They really want you pumped up early in '07! Can't wait. I've accumulated preference points and am hoping for a draw. Spoke with my outfitter and said this past season they had 98% chances with 80% success rate -- waaaahooooo! Cross my fingers and knock on my gun stock for luck!

Good luck with the draw and the hunt. Remember to pack the camera

Always pack the camera! Am also going to try my luck at videoing the event, although I hope the Gguide has a steady hand, 'cause if I see a nice bull that camera's on the ground as I let the lead fly.

Mac,Good to hear! I put through my WY Pronghorn application as well. I didn't draw last year so I have my one preference point which is tied for the most available as last yr was the first year for WY Pronghorn Pref.Pts. Which units did you apply for? Good luck,S&S

I am applying for Units #95 & 96 in the Bridger Teton National Forest - using Thomson Outfitters. I bid on this during an REMF auction last year. I was able to get addtl pref points in '06 as they extended the deadline to September. I am crossing my fingers that I get drawn. I think I may hunt in the 1st season.Good luck on the Pronghorn draw!

Mac,Are you talking about the national RMEF convention or was it a local chapter event? If it was the national event...was it worth it...or worth while? I've never attended the national RMEF event but have been thinking I might in the near future.S&S

I believe it was a local chapter event. My first experience attending was last year held in Ripon. It was great - I thinkthe tix were $60 or $75 ea which includes Membership, Steak dinner + drinks (more drinks extra) - they have a raffle with many guns and other items donated. My friend who owns Barnwood Arms donates guns to the cause. They also auction off many hunts. I thought it was a great experience. There must have been >200 people there - you get to meet some great people. In fact, I met the Asst Sheriff for the county there and he is also applying for his elk tag in the same area I'm heading and with the same guide. Great place to meet people...lots of ranchers in the valley and elsewhere - could be a place of gathering to find your next hunting place :)The next auction/dinner is in March...I will try and keep you posted.

Found out that I was one of the unlucky ones for teh Wyoming Elk Draw quest. My year applying, which I knew there's was a low-probability of obtaianing a tag. My guide told me that none of his 40 prospective hunters were drawn!!My spirits are high though in hoping that means if I do get drawn next year that it means the hunting will be excellent! Then again, if 40 hunters didn't get drawn that means I have a very low chance of getting drawn next year !! Oh well, one can hope '08 will be a good year for me in my quest! One thing that really bothers me is that for a state like Wyoming that is a draw state and require you to use a state approved guide, that the State Game & Fish Dept would equally shell out non-resident tags amongst the guides who submit applications and behlf of hunters. If I were a guide service I would surely being calling my state rep and having a beef with them on this subject. <<off my soap-box>>

Mac,I agree with ya on that one! The only thing I can say is the systems are quirky in each state and I've decided to just smile and play by the rules and think of it as some crazy game. It's always fun when you finally do get drawn...I got drawn for a CA Sage Grouse permit this yr and I felt like I won the lottery. :( Better luck next yr,S&S
