Just an FYI. I'm not sure if anyone knows this individual, or if he's a member here.

My prayers go out to the family. Devotion to the sport kept him hunting at his age, i hope thata was not his downfall. One should never hunt alone if you have a medical condition. I personally have a medical condition and never hunt alone, my wife wont allow it.

Oh my gosh! That is just down the road from me. I've hunted some of that area and it is vast! There are so many dry washes out there and some are deep enough that you would have to be right over the top of a vehicle to even see it. I sure hope he is found safe.

Mr Nies went missing on the 9th! As of the last news I was able to find, the 14th, the search had been called off and he was still missing. This is so tragic.

It does not look promissing for him being found safe. It is a sad day for sure. Hope something turns up. Prayers for him and his family.

I contacted Katie Lucia from the Desert Dispatch news paper and she replied with the following

Bill,

Unfortunately there is nothing new to report. He's still missing and police suspended the search for him unless and until they get new information.
If any new information is released our website will have that information up as soon as possible. If we don't hear anything in the next week or so I'll likely be doing another follow-up story.

Thank you,

Gives us all pause to thihnk. could happen to any of us. Not many of us do it be we should all take a small back pack with extra water and food and fire starter and space blanket. And be sure the cell phone with good batteries is with us too.

Braz, you bring up a very good point. This is my hunting pack and what is in it.

Wyoming saw, lighter, survival FM, my entire E-Caller set up, three MREs, two water purifiers with extra batteries, lock blade knife, gloves, face veil, 25 feet of climbing rope, range finder, insulated blanket, extra cell phone battery, cell phone hyper charger and a hydra cell with 100 oz of water. All this and AR 15 with 40 rounds of ammo are not as heavy as it looks but I've always been very cognizant of emergencies and the unexpected. I also have a few first aide items like 4X4s, nasal compression packing (I almost died once from a bloody nose), tape, scissors, saline, Neosporin and such. I used to keep sutures but they go bad fairly quick and if you've never put them in they can be a little intimidating!

If a person needing "life sustaining" prescription medication goes out they should take at least three days worth just in case.

What do you have in your kit???

Thanks Devil Dog. My son Jeff bought it in the PX and it's made by Code Alpha. Jeff told me a number of the guys have them and prefer them over some of what they are issued. I don't know for sure though if it is an authorized substitute but is is made very tough. It will also unzip to make it 30% larger. It will hold a grip of stuff.

What a shame. I hope he is found ok. Sympathy to the family and friends. You never know what can happen out in the woods, and being prepared as has been well stated already would indeed be a plus. Be safe everyone!
