So I'm new to the whole hunting thing, been working on my call, gone out to Angeles nation forest a few times. I hike to my stand as quite as possible, I try using spots that are right over bottle neck type formats in the terrain and make sure I'm down wind, wait 10 to 15 minutes then start calling. Have had no luck any advice? Does the call have to sound perfect? And will an e caller work much better? Any advice will really help, on the bright side I acquired the curiosity of two deer on two separate days.

Just keep at it. I don't think anyone could tell you what perfect calling sounds like. All callers are unique and have their own sound. Make the call sound woeful, murderous and frantic. And practice. I carry calls in my truck and call while I'm driving. If you're calling in animals, you're doing something right.

I know a few good callers that also have an e-caller. Just another tool in the tool box. Especially if you're calling solo. It gets the sound away from you so you're not the focus of attention.

Like I said, keep at it and you'll fool some predators.

Have you tried heading north a little bit? I once accidentally walked up on a coyote to within 15 feet (scared me half to death when it suddenly jumped up and ran) on a windy day while hunting birds.

Does the call have to sound perfect?

Nope... not even close (to perfect)... Switch said it well on what to "try" & make it sound like.

And will an e caller work much better?

Nope (again)... but an e caller can help in slaying the poor thing ( :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:), as their attention is not on you, but rather on the box.

Have had no luck any advice?

Have you read the pinned thread titled "Some help for newbies" in the predator section? Check out "AllPredatorCalls.Com" on the net & order some Randy Anderson dvds. "Mastering the Art", the 3 hr version is a great one for starters.

The other is perseverance; never give up.... Good Luck!

I've had perfect setups, great sounding calls and a big nothin' to show for it. I've also called in a pair using a homemade tape of my beagle whining that came in so fast i didn't know what to do! You just never know what will work, but keep trying and mr. coyote will show up...then you'll be screwed like the rest of us! Hooked for life! Hell, i'm trying to get my wife to drop me off tonight to give it a try...IT DOESN'T STOP! lol

Good luck!

You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

I start thinking maybe their isn't any coyotes here and start parking my gear up as I'm getting up and start walking towards my truck I see one maybe 100 yards behind where I was calling from and it just takes off can't believe I wasn't watching my 6

Ha Ha! I've had that happen a time or two. I started waiting about ten minutes after I stopped calling to get up and pack out. It helps and all a coyote has to do is see movement of any kind that is not natural and he is gone like the wind! I've caught them heading back to the truck too.
Now, don't try to get away! I am more muscular, more cunning, faster, and larger than you are, and I am a genius. Why you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten.
