I need some help with finding the 'true mill setting' for the power on this scope I'm getting today. Everyone I call, from midwayusa to barska, no one seems to know. Someone on this forum has to know the.number I'm looking for. Its a second focal plane barska. Item number is 849820. Has a mildot reticule.

Which one of these is your scope?
http://www.barska.co...fle_Scopes.html

The corresponding manual under Riflescopes should tell you
http://www.barska.co...ct-Manuals.html

For instance in the "AC11418 2.5-10x42 IR Designator Manual" it states "The mil dot setting for the reticle is 10x."

The part number you have provided seems to indicate that it's a Weaver Kaspa Model Description
Power, Objective Special Features Finish Reticle MSRP 849820 3-12x44 Illuminated Matte TBX $324.95

With only brief browsing, I was unable to find a manual on the website.

OK. That was wierd. It is a Weaver... why I put barska - I got a one month old at home and haven't slept for a couple weeks. And I guess I was glancing at a magazine at the same time. OK.

Mark 2 lines 3.6" apart on a target at 100yds. Turn the power until you get the reticle to subtend.
A mil is 1/1000th of the distance. You can check the reticle for subtention at any distance as long as you know the distance.
For example, you can do it at home even if you can only see 30yds. (30yds = 1080") (1080"/1000 = 1.08") (1 mil @ 30yds = 1.08")

First Focal Plane subtends at all times. You get spoiled when you start shooting better glass....
