I've been out maybe 5-6 times (25-30 stands) since the last time I've connected on something. The wait and effort was well worth it on Saturday morning. I've gone out to the ranch a few times that I haven't posted about but I've definitely been working my spots the last few weeks.

My last trip out 3 weeks ago I had a big coyote wind me at 300+ and turn and run no shot. the next stand I had one working in at 400+, I was on a side of a hill looking down and had to adjust to my right to got the scope on him. When I turned I was at that weird side hill angle with my sticks and as I was bringing the scope on the coyote the right leg kicked out! coyote stopped, I got back on the sticks and aimed again... Leg fell out again!! Coyote turned and RAN!! My bad! I was running a bit late after a couple more blank stands so I headed back. I stopped and made one last stand for 20 minutes and packed up. as I was walking through the gully a coyote came over the ridge, stopped, kinda turned his head at me like he was surprised to see me and turned and trotted off. Didn't even try to get my gun shouldered. Had my chances just didnt happen.

On to Saturday...

I got to the ranch pretty early, like 505. I gathered my things and headed out to where that big coyote winded me a few weeks back. This time I got set up a little closer to the fence line were he ran from. the wind SUCKS but I have to work with it. So I'm calling for 5 minutes and like a rocket there he goes again bursting out from behind a mound maybe 75 yards away! He's going to my right toward the same area as last time but before I could swing around he was in a trough and out of sight. Coyotes were barking all over the place so I didn't really like my odds from here on out. I got to the back of the ranch and worked my way into the wind back to the car. Made a couple of stands but nothing. Im heading in and the wind is blowing 10 maybe, just loud enough to muffle my sound. I come around a ridge and I see these 3 youngsters harassing an older calf at 100 yards. I sit down a get on my sticks. I figured these guys were already taught by mom and dad that calves are easy eating so, they had to go!

I lined up the first (bottom) at 100 yards and squeezed... DRT the other 2 took off together sprinting up the hill, I took aim and let one loose around 150 yards and SMACK! folded the second (middle) one on a dead sprint! The 3rd one stopped a bit farther away looking back at his buddies maybe 175ish.... Squeezed a third round off and the dog hit the ground before my gun recoiled... All 3 shots were within 10 seconds!

That was an awesome rush! Had these guys been mousing I would've let them go for another day, but their action caused the hammer to be brought down on them!!!

I stayed with pup distress for another 15 minutes after to see if I could get mom or dad racing in but no luck so I packed it in and headed home!

:good: Good shooting.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Thanks for the compliments fellas! Definitely going to be hard to to that action, but I'll still try :D

I was using a foxpro Firestorm as my caller, but didn't call these guys in. I caught them harrassing a calf and shot all 3 before I pulled the caller out. I did run pup distress 3 for a bit after the 3 shots but no luck.

Frank, reloading is awesomely rewarding for sure! I didn't get a shot at the big one, I've been winded twice by him now... I won't stop till I get him!

Had it not been for the smooth action of the new 700 I don't think I would've been so lucky!

Happy hunting folks!
