That's right ladies and gentlemen, we were back at it again today... Same ol' routine. Out to the field by 6am, got set up and waited for it to get light enough to shoot. As we were pulling into the long gravel driveway, there were 2 big jackrabbits sitting on the edge of the field. I really wanted to break my new shotgun in on some fur, but it was too early and too close to the owner's house. :D As soon as it was legal crow shooting time, we fired up the calls and nothing showed for about 20 minutes, then WHAM, it was on! Had a TON of birds come in and we were having a hard time reloading our guns fast enough! Still had alot of high-flyers, but we were able to drop more than a few that were curious enough to come in low. One came diving in like a missile and almost hit the crippled-crow decoy, but Matt took care of him... :D He also got a double while I was out chasing a wounded bird that coasted into the neighboring field. :o We shot until 9:30 when the action tapered off like usual, then we started picking up our spread & the birds when we realized we were only 1 bird short of our limits. Kept an eye open while we were cleaning up and saw about 5 crows way off in the distance, but headed our way. Matt & I jumped back into our hiding spot and waited. These 5 came in high, but we shot anyways hoping that we could reach out and dump the lowest one. No luck. Then I look over to my left and here comes one, right at us, only about 30 feet off the ground... I whispered to Matt "See him?" He said "Yep." I replied "At the same time?" and he just smiled. This bird coasted in until it was within about 40 feet of us and we jumped up at the same time and shot simultaneously, talk about a feather cloud! :D BINGO! This was the first time I've ever limited out on crows, and the new shotgun is a big improvement over my old Mossberg. Can't wait to go out and do it again! :D Just gotta go to Walmart and get some more shells... :D Which reminds me, anyone local reload 12 gauge shells? Over the past several weekends we've probably thrown away 250+ hulls. If anyone wants 'em, we can save 'em for ya'.Posted Image48 crows in just under 3 hours!

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

Sorry John, it was closed for the holiday weekend... Shoulder is good, this new shotgun came with a REALLY nice recoil pad on it. Matt even commented on how much nicer it is than the one that came on his 870 from the factory so I'm willing to bet one will show up on his shotgun in the not-too-distant future. :o After this last weekend, I think we might have to take next weekend off to let some more birds come into the area. Otherwise at this rate, the crows might treat it as a "no-fly zone". :D

You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

That sounded like a lot of fun. I did the crow thing a few years back. Was working a dairy in Chino on a depredation permit from fish and game.Shot 3 times a week for 2 years. I had to start reloading, I was shooting over 10 boxes a week plus the landowner was buying us a flat of 10 boxes a month. My best day was 135 between me and the landowner...What memories..............

Nope. ;) Unfortunately between the move and trying to get my K5 done, I haven't been out for crows in well over a month.
