We put 19 Albies in the box yesterday 33.5 KM from the Pt. Pinos buoy. Got the lines in (trap set) 5 minutes had a Quad. going and landed 4 peanuts 10-12# 10 minutes later 5 on landed 4. Got the boat cleaned up and fish bled and iced and then a double. 1/2 hour later had a hex and landed 5. Boat cleaned up all fish on ice and we see jumpers head towards them, we are literally betting on which rod goes off first, when we get a triple. I grab a meat line that went off and drag in a 38# 41" Albacore. Biggest tuna I've caught out of Monterey ever. We had 18 fish on ice by 9:30 AM. Then trolled for 5 hours with nothing?? Picked up one reeling in to head for the barn, there was some debate about staying a while longer but we left them biting with plenty of tuna and a lot of work to get it ready for the canning process. I sent SJ a pic of the toad that maybe he can help add to the report. I'm computer challenged in that dept. What a great day flat dead calm Pacific Lake. Cheers Buzz

Sweet, good job on the Albies...
The one week I am going to be gone and the seas are flat to go and get some Salmon and Albies.
I hope the Albies and the seas hold out for me to get back to Cali to get some fish on.....

Very nice, Dale. One of these days you are going to have to blow the cobwebs out of some rifles and help clean out some ground squirrels. On second though, the fish taste a lot better. Stay after um. Great report.

Thanks SJ I really appreciate it. I got it all vac. packed and done yesterday. We went out today poking around here close to home and put one nice 12# Halibut in the box and lost a really nice one to a cut leader. Those butts got some teeth. Hopefully next week we will get another weather window for the tuna. Cheers Dale

Very nice Albies. I have heard a few reports of the fish heading north. I haven't been seeing to many game fish here. But I managed to swim with some bat rays that were larger then me the other day and have a harbor seal chase me around. Was an interesting dive.

Yea I used to belong to Coastside but when they made it a pay to play deal I didn't stay there. Great group of guys but have found more local forums that are more in tune with the local Monterey Bay fish scene.

Another 18 in the box today. Nice grade of fish with average of 20#. Great part is they are less than 15 miles from the harbor. Fun day getting my son out for Tuna. Need those young guys to wind um in. I've got 800 cans in stock so as soon as we get a few cool days in the valley we are going to have a canning party.

One of my friends called me last night on his way home from tuna fishing.
He turned me on to some huge filets, so my step son and I broke out the soy, and wasabi.
That was some good eating.

Yea my buddies down in San Diego and also a friend in Ventura are crying the blues about the warm water down there. I guess it's our turn for the good Tuna bite up here. It's been a while since they were this close here. Winds are up today and for the rest of the week. I think we are going to tough it out with the heat and can it up on Wed. we'll just start early.

Last night I helped a friend cann about 20 tuna,
all in the 15 to 30 pound range.
That was a lot of work.

Yea we put up 350 cans last Wednesday, lots of work for 4 guys but we make a party out of it. BBQ, beer and some sashimi. Went back out yesterday and picked up 13 more. We've got a great weather window this week but I've got to go to Tahoe for a week with the family. Darn vacations!!! Grrrrr!!! Gotta keep the little woman happy.

but, Thoes were my friends on the tuna trip that took the video.

I was lucky enough to help can them, and smoke the bellies.

I hear ya. I'm so sick of loining out, vac. packing, and canning Albies. I'm tired of smelling like a stinky old tuna. I want to quit, my wife says I'm sick in the head to get up at dart thirty and go out in the wild blue. Lately I've been wondering if she is right for a change????? We've had a great year for Tuna, best it's been in a long time and fairly close. We were stupid and ran yesterday in a washing machine out there. Picked up 20 or so. (lost count) but got the crap kicked out of us.

Well we had a weather window and headed out Sunday night for a 60 mile run. Left the Harbor at 10 pm and headed SW. I took TJ out the first 20 miles or so before taking a 4 hr power nap while others took their turn at watch. I had "Otto" (aka Auto-pilot) set along with the radar alarms and the AIS alarms, which help me sleep. My boat cruises at 8 knots with only a 4.25 gpm fuel burn so it's a long slow trip but the sleeping quarters are good. We got to the tuna grounds a bit early and got all the gear ready, With the first hint of daylight (aka as shoot time for ducks) we had lines in the water. We call it "Trap Set" when all lines are out. I troll a total of 11 lines. We had a great morning with 16 in the box by 10 am. By noon we had 21 when my Starboard engine quit. Told the crew we are headed in and started trolling towards the Barn 60 miles away. We continue catching fish on the way in as we are loining out tuna. Ended up with 27 fish, a few Peanuts and most were a nice grade of fish. Absolutely beautiful out there, Lake Pacific. Very interesting docking with only one motor but we made it in. Great trip, hopefully we might get one more.

I went out on my first tuna trips the past couple months (moss and hmb), 5 total. We skunked last weekend. The other trips we brought in from 20-32 Tuna. I can def say I'm hooked on Tuna fishing! Ate lots of sashimi! Nom Nom. Picked up my new canner yesterday and can't wait to can them.
