The family and I just recently bought a house in Hemet (transplant from the O.C.) which is wonderfully close to my deer zone, D19. A fellow CPC member offered me some tips as to where to look for deer this up coming season so last night after our weekly trip to Wally World, I decided to take the wife and kids up to drive around.
The boys were thrilled to see some cottontails running around as well as some birds. At last light we decided to head back home and then my wife yells "stop, there’s deer up there!" Yeah, of course she spots them before me! Two deer (maybe one buck) spooked up a ridge about 40 yrds from the road. They did their typical run-stop-look back Muley routine and just checked us out for a bit.
Could my buck fever get any worse?!?!?! My son (4 ½) started seeing all kinds of things that weren’t there based on the stories he started telling; "I saw horns and a wiener so it was a buck and maybe two of them and they were scared we were going to shoot them and you’ll be back for them in October and…." Man I love that kid and his run-on sentences! I didn’t know buck fever was contagious!
To top it all off, my cousin calls me to tell me he’s in for his first deer season and just picked up a Ruger American Rifle in -06 for this upcoming October! I guess I’m going to have to let him shoot first since I’ve already got a buck on the wall from 2001! Oh well, I’m only 10 miles from the deer we saw so I think I’ll get to spend a lot of time chasing Bambi this season!

D 19 is a hard zone to hunt most of it is full of thick brush and steep. But with some hard work, lots of boot leather & gas one can do well. just know where the game presurve and indain land borders are and you won't get into trouble.
