Hi gang.... I'm looking to pick up a new semi auto for pheasant, turkey and fun shooting (clays, etc.), and am wondering what your favorite gun is to shoot at these targets? In checking other sites, I'm leaning towards a Benelli Super Black Eagle 2 26" or 28", but look forward to hearing your thoughts before I spend the $$$..... Thanks.

I have used the Benelli M2 for many years. What a great gun. I did not get the Super Black Eagle because I have no use for the 3.5" shells. The 3" shells do anything I need. I hunt waterfowl, turkeys, pheasants, and quail with mine. It handles all loads, light to heavy without a problem.

DavidR,This is a question I think all of us could debate forever. The Super Black Eagle II is incredible...in your post the only thing you mentioned that even comes close to needing or using a 3.5" load is the turkey. If you won't need the 3.5 capabilities you have plenty of guns that will shoot up to 3" for less $$$. I haven't found a gun that will cycle the 2 3/4's through 3 1/2's as well as the SBE II. You can't go wrong and won't be dissapointed if you go with the SBE II.S&S

I don't think you can go wrong with the Benelli or the Beretta. I've got both and they are very reliable weapons if you keep them clean. My Duck gun for the past 15 yrs. or so has been a Browning Gold Hunter which is capable of shooting 3 1/2" shells. I tried them and they kick way too much for me. I don't see the need for the 3 1/2" as was stated earlier as I use 2 3/4" shells for Ducks. The less recoil the better you will shoot it's a proven fact with all else being equal. When we go to Argentina on HiVolume (1000 plus rounds a day)Dove Shoots all that is used are Benelli's and Beretta's. They call the Remington 1100 the 550 cause it only shoots half the time.

Didn't mean to, was only relating what the Argentinans called them. I've got a couple of old 1100's that have serviced me well way back when. They just won't hold up to the abuse those guns get down there, they get so hot you have to wear gloves and sometimes take 5 for a cool off. I wore out a pair of Bob Allen shooting gloves down there in 2 days. I'm taking two identical Beretta's down in May.

I currently shoot and always have pretty much shot an old Remington Model 17 in 20 gage. Original design by John Browning. I shoot a 30" barrel in full choke and rarely ever fail to limit out on birds. The shotgun originally was used by my great grandmother. I recently purchased a used one for parts to repair the old shotgun. The shotgun has a unique bottom eject which I really like and is super light. After the patent ran out, Ithica copied it. I wish Remington still made this shotgun. I would buy a couple. I can reach out a long way and knock birds down with it. I have put thousands upon thousands of shells through this gun. It looks like it has been through a war.Jason
