Well I am taking the family up to mammoth momday to spend the week fishing and hiking and whatever else comes out way. We have a condo at the base of the ski hill so we will definitley not be roughing it. I plan on taking my gear and doing a few hunts. From what I have gathered during my research on this site, usga and google earth, there are good opportunities off benton road behind the dump and in the valleys around it. At least thats my plan. I will be up hunted out and back at the condo before any knows I was gone. Will post pics when I return. Oh ya here is one I shot the other day using a cottontail distress and a mojo. I shot this yote at around 10:00 am in about 75 degree weather. She came in from my right cross wind and stopped about 15 yards in front of me. I had her tracked pretty good in my scope, she kind of had her front legs apart like she was ready to bolt when I shot her 85 grain 243 round did some damage.

Love that area. Don't forget to report on the fishing as well.
Hard to tell in the photo... was that coyote mangy or is it just the way the light is shining? Either way, good job.

will do on the fishing
no sign of mange but she did have a rather large hole in her chest that appeared to be man made

How did the trip go? I've been thinking of a fishing trip up there myself. I don't know about dog calling. I've heard that area is tough. We'll see.

The fishing up there was really fun. Both my girls scored their first trout and the misses and I even caught one. The coyote calling was tough didn't even see any scat off benton crossing road but did see one crossing tioga pass road with a squirrel in his mouth and a grin on his face. All in all we caught four trout, saw 9 deer and one bear...picture attached. We fished lake mary using a rented motor boat and power bait...were on the water for about 2.5 hours. We are definitley going back.

Nice report! It sounds like you had a great time indeed. I've deer hunted the Mono Lake area and south to West Portal, east to the Crators and I love that area. I've never seen a coyote up there but I've seen a couple of mountain lions
and bears
. Thanks for the report and bear photo.
