I finally harvested a few cotton's

Posted Image

Got to the spot about 20 mins before legal shoot time. Jumped one five mins into when it was legal, he got about 30yrds out and stopped. BAM, as soon as he dropped another jumped about 20yrds ahead of him and BAM I had two bunnies before the sun was all the way up. Gutted and cleaned them after walking a bit more, jumped another but didnt take the shot. Headed over to another spot and let me tell you its infested with cottontails! Took one more at the new spot and headed home with three in the bag. Two in the freezer and one soaking in brine, today was a good day!

This was my second time out (went out for HOURS on Tues, learned allot) but this is my first season so I officially popped my hunting cherry. Cant wait to get out again.

They should be good each way. I myself prefer them fried and stewed the best. But BBQ can be very good just don't over cook them as they dry out and get tough.

Try the crock pot too. you won't regret it. Italian dressing was what I used, and apparently so has clampdaddy, and loved it. melts in your mouth, incredibly moist, and super easy to cook. And come bird season,. you just throw them all in there and go to town. I did it with quail, chikar, and cottontail, and am hooked on the crock pot now.

Very nice job getting your first rabbits! :) I remember when I got my first cottontail, jack rabbit, dove and quail (all taken with air rifles).

I just cooked some cottontails I got the other day. I baisted them with olive oil and sprinkled salt and pepper on them and wrapped them with tin foil. Then put them in the oven for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Then have a mixture of flour, bread crumbs and spices you like for powdering them and fry them in the pan with some canola oil for about 3 minutes per side, to brown them. Then eat. The meat will just fall off the bones and it is Oh So Good!

Enjoy it. Rabbit tastes great! :)

Congrats on your first successful hunt and may you have many more. One little tip for you....I've found that most places that hold good rabbit populations also seem to make for very good dove hunting spots too. Start keeping an eye out for flyways and you'll be ahead of the game once dove season comes around.
Sharps, the rifle that made the west safe for Winchester!

Real tractors have two cylinders and hand clutches.

My rifle is mine, it isn't for sale, and I only give guns to people that I really like.

Way to go. Next to coyotes rabbits are the funnest things to hunt. I have to eat some of mine so I can go out again.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Congrats man, and good job on getting out there and hunting. I honestly would not know where to start at hunting for the first time if i had to, I take for granted the fact that I have always hunted.
