A Remington nylon 66 for a .17hmr? +$? I have a nylon that I love to death and hate to part with but I don't really need it and I would really like a 17hmr but I don't have the cash for onr . I havebeen wrestling the question all night so I figure I'll look to the masses for an answer.

Don't part with an old friend. Get a lemonaid stand running this weekend and buy a new 17hmr with the proceeds.

I could never sell my Nylon 66. I've had it since I was 12 or 13 and it was my trapping rifle.

It really is a painful proposition. I guess I can wait but dangit its gonna be way too long till I can just buy one and I'm very impatient

You may want to consider a .223 as opposed to a .17hmr as it would cover more animal species. A .17hmr can be a fun firearm but still has it's limitations.

The Mossberg 817 goes on sale at Big5 all the time for about $169 I think. Shouldnt take long to save that up. I wouldnt sell something you already KNOW you will regret.

I agree with everyone,
Don't get rid of the nylon 66, It will be a good collector gun.
Also, like John said, consider a .223 cal
The 17hmr is a fun and accurate gun, but the .223 has a little more horse power.

Yea, you can get a 17 HMR pretty cheap that will shoot really well. Give up the Nylon though and it is gone forever.

keep the 66 , depending on which style you have I have seen them go for $900.00 and up on gun broker.

as for the 817 I love mine but spend just a bit more for the wood stock and bull barrel . . . . . . .

Years ago I sold a Ruger 10/22 that I bought at a young(er) age, probably over 40+ years ago when I bought it brand new for almost nothing. Hxxl, I don't even know WHY I sold it anymore, but I did & was one of, if not the DUMBEST moves I have made (out of many). lol

I mean, I also LOVE my 22 mag (just like a 17 hmr only different / lol), but would never sell it for another cal / rifle. I would just buy the other rifle/cal when the funds became available.

And like the others, buy a 223... It is a mandatory calilber for any varmint / predator hunter... or at least it would be if I were dictator! Oh, and there are lots of rifle brand choices for the 223... just as long as you get one with the words "Remington" on the barrel. Also mandatory if I were dictator... ok, well almost!

Don't mean to rain on your parade... er, then again, yes I did... But Good Luck anyhow on your next (223) purchase

p.s... Jason said it best... Once the 66 is gone, it is gone forever... Man, that is such a true statement with many things in life... just some more so than others.

I wouldn't. A nice 66 is worth almost twice what the average .17 bolt gun goes for. Eventually all things in the gun world come full circle and once you've had your fun with a .17 you'll move on to a .223, then a .22-250 and so on and so on until eventually you find that you need to buy another gun because stalking small game with a .22 is just as much fun as blasting them from far away with a bigger gun.

I have to chime in with the rest on this one. Dont sell/trade it. In 6 monthes we would see a new post.. " I should never have gotton rid of the 66!" Look at the Marlins and other rifles, and save up a little. Good luck.

Like I said on the other thread to Bennie, I do not know of anyone who has ever sold a gun and didn't regret it. And SJ's right, why a 17? You can shoot a .223 for the same price or less. Why pay 5x as much to shoot when you could just keep the .22 also?

Back at Christmas Turners had a Savage 93R17FV in .17 HMR on sale and I was really considering it. That is until I saw how long the line was at Turners. That and the price of the ammunition. I already have a bunch of bolt guns in .223 ....So I ordered a bunch of ammunition instead. Bottom Line, Keep the Nylon 66 to pass on to someone you love and go buy yourself a new Bolt Gun.Just my .02.

$900 for a Nylon 66? Holy shingles, Batman!!!! Guess I haven't been paying attention or i'd have $900 toward my next dream gun, which might be a 17 HMR of some type.
