Check out the video. This guy guts rabbits like its nobodys business! I tried it on opening day and while it did work there is definitley a technique to it that I don't have down yet. I ruptured a gut or two and had to do some nasty clean up but.... just watch the video and try it.

My grandmother used the second method. The tub that she put the meat in would have salt water in it. after a short soak and scrub they were ready for the BBQ. Sometimes she added Terriaki sauce to the soak water just for a different flavor. DR

Just gota make sure its a head shot or I can see the guts coming out the body bullet hole instead. Otherwise thats a great method.

I usually do it like the second method. I just tried the "Push Gut" method (the first method he did), but it made quite the mess. I prefer the second method myself. ;)

I tried it today aso, on two rabbits, and it worked without a hitch. I had a fear that I was going to be the one that messes this up and ends up with guts all over their shoes and pants.

Well done monkeychunks. You look really familiar, do you ever hunt ducks out of the san lius refuge?

Thanks man, it was a spur of the moment thing. We had the camera handy and decided to give it a try. I look familiar becuase i remind people of a young samuel L. Jackson.... I am not into duck hunting, ate too many of them when i was growing up so i cant stand the taste of them.

That's funny right there! Whenever me and my buddys get together and have a few cold ones its only a matter of seconds after the first one is popped before someone goes off on the Dave Chapelle/Samuel Jackson Beer skit. Mmmmm, mmm b!t@& !!! Lol!

I sure wouldn't leave the skin on for the fleas and ticks to come off on you.
And while this is a nice party trick, it still seems like the heat would be held inside if it is not opened. plus, you will still have old blood, membrane and, bits and pieces of gut, etc. inside the cavity, so you are still going to have to open it up and get your hands dirty. Why not just use multi-purpose scissors and open it up to begin with, grab both front legs with one hand, both back legs with the other and and fling the rabbit toward the ground with a sudden halt to let all the guts fly out. You now have an opened rabbit with no mess also, just as easily, and you can finish the job like you're supposed to. I realize the idea is to not rupture the innards, but scissors make it extremely easy to open without doing that, and also allow you to finish cleaning it right on the spot, and are easily carried with next to no weight.

You can bag it for later, put it on ice and finish the job when you have time.
"Bisley" also suggested a great method. I will have to try it out. I utilized the squeeze method becuase i hunt for long hours and with 10 lbs of ice it doesnt last long. So i figured the squeeze method will save my ice and keep my meat fresher. I have had a few occasions where i went to gut the bunnies after the hunt and they were a bit swolen and the gut contents smelled really bad. I just like the option to finih the job later without spilling any unnecessary blood that may throw off my cover scent ans i hunt rabbit while coyote hunting.
