Gents;

After waiting a year for Nosler manufacturing to produce the 6mm 55 gr Lead Free bullets, we got lucky today.

Well they came in this morning and are ready for purchasing.


I suggest you move on them ASAP.


For the guys having to shoot in restricted Zones this is one of the best alternatives to lead I have been able to work up.

Midway only had the 50 ea boxes, so I ordered 6 boxes. If they shoot good in my 243 Win bolt rifle and my 243 WSSM D-Tech AR-15 I won't be buying anymore Barnes 62 gr Varmint Grenades.

Yep, Rob & Bob, I look forward to your reports on that bullet. It sure "sounds" like the go to lead free bullet in the 243 anyhow. At least for predator & varmint work. Not that I "may" ( ) be just a tad prejudice on Nosler (or Remmy) or anything.

Gotcha. I was hoping it was for some factory loads!

I've got an old Remington Model 700 in 6mm Remington that I still use on occasion. My local hunting store (Hunting Supply in Salinas) has some lead free 6mm, for $50/box of 20! I about crapped myself. And I thought buying the 100 grain Core-Lokt Remington factory loads for deer hunting was bad at $25/box of 20! I guess I'll be sticking with using my AR15 for predator hunting while I'm here in CA.

I hope for a miracle...the Nosler 40 gr Lead Free 22-250's I've loaded up hit at almost the same impact area (100 yards) as the fully leaded versions...soooo
I am wishing the same might hold true for the 55 gr 6mm Lead Free bullets. I know, I must be dreaming with so many variables going on, but please don't wake me just yet.
If the 55 gr 6mm Lead Free Noslers hit close to their leaded cousins it could be a sweet deal.
If these 55 gr 6mm Lead Free bullets work out, I have brought my Remmy 700 back to the party, and at an affordable price. The 6 mm VGs are there, but are not discussed in polite circles.

But hey, I am pulling for you my friend... Heck, I'm almost as excited about seeing those 55gr Nosler non lead working as you and dabob are, and I no longer even own a 243... which is probably another mistake of mine. LOL

A big box came from Midway today...15 boxes of them.....and I can wait until Saturday testing....Gads zooks this is gonna be fun.

I had good luck with the 6mm Lead Noslers using 44 gr of Varget = 3772 ft/sec aprox
That is where I'll start with the 6mm Lead FREE Noslers.
I'll cook up something, for sure that will blast pesky varmints.

Hodgdon has some 243 Win, 55 gr NOS BT LF data on their web-site. They show a MAX load of Varget as 39.5 gr and the starting load at 37.1 gr.

It looks like the loads for the NEW Lead Free NOS BT 55 gr bullet are around 4 to 5 grains lower than the data for the same weight lead bullets.

I just picked up a Rem 788 in 6mm Rem. Wonder if these will shoot well out of it? I think it has a 1 in 9" twist. I might just buy a box of 50 to try out.

Nice find on the 788 Dave. Just remember if you get a little to hot on your loads if the bolt is tight don't bang on it to hard. The bolt handles are only soldered on. Don't ask me how I know this.

Just ordered a box of Noslers, along with brass and some 75gr V-max's too

There may be a difference for 243 and 6mm.

Wonder how these will work on Deer.

I loaded some up in my 6mm and with a 200yd zero it only drops about .7mils at 400yds. Thats about 10".

Dave, they certainly may (or may not) work on deer, however, I've always been a believer in using bullets that were "designed" for the game intended by the manufacturer... which these are not (for deer), as far as I know anyhow.

However, there are other lead free bullets, that certainly should work on both game and predators, but I would have to look them up for anything specific. The terrible "B"(arnes) word comes quickly to mind, but makes me want to puke just mentioning that word. Ugh, just me is all... Good luck!

I wasnt thinking about specifically targeting deer with them. I have some 90gr e-tips loaded up for that. Just thinking if I was coyote hunting during deer season and all I had was the 55 grainers. I know of guys that use V-max's for deer
