For the third year in a row our local quail have had a double hatch. Right now my front lawn is covered with 1" tall quail. This is the second batch this year. Weather conditions have been right for the last three years to allow them two batches. How about where you are? are your numbers up? DR

Danger, not sure up here at Davis Creek, not a lot of quail in this area. Alturas, 20 miles south has a lot. I have a friend tht lives just north of the city limits, He has quail everywhere, doesn't hunt them at home lol. He feeds them all winter, kind cool, neat little birds, fun to watch. Ed

I've seen good numbers just recently and even seen coveys with a lot of little ones running around. It is good to see the numbers up. Hopefully they hold or increase some more before October. :)

Around here there are lots of adult birds in coveys. I have not seen any pairs of quail or any young birds. I can't remember any year in the past when the quail were not paired up before June.

We don't feed them but we do leave water pans on the lawn that the sprinklers fill and I pile brush up for them to nest in. They are fun to watch. DR

I saw a bunch of young quail the other day too. The most I've ever seen before and this is in the high desert.

Right now is the wrong time of year and way too early to think about making assumptions. Most are still very leery about getting around with the young ones. You will still see the occasional group or covey for sure, but come September when the chicks are more grown and better at flying and getting out of danger you will start seeing them out in force. Always good to see them, but don't get too worried yet if you don't B)

The pair that were in my yard had a single hatch of 11 little ones. They were around for a day after the hatching and then they took off. Haven't seen them around for two weeks now. Just like them.......you feed them and house them and they take of with out saying thank you or goodbye.

Saw lots of them in the Tehachapi area last weekend. Two large coveys while I was squirrel hunting. Also saw a dozen or so does and a large bobcat. Surprisingly, only saw one cottontail, and I didn't have my rifle at the time!
