I set up my caller in a low field that was a few hundred yards long it almost looked like a dried duck blind.I played lighten jack and after a few minutes I see a pair come trotting out past me a 150 yards off one stopped and the other kept going.I didn't have my shooting stix either so I waited to see if it could get closer but it didn't want to come in anymore.I was thinking the mate must be circling around towards me so i hit pup distress and she popped up 50 yards to my right. All I had was a chest shot and it was narrow so I waited for a broad side shot bad ideal it took off. I didn't really want to kill it anyway since they were a pair and pups are on the ground that's my excuse and I am sticking with it lol...
.
...
It still amazes me how they will respond to distress calls.

Good job on the calling!

Good job, Shoot-it...
I was actually thinking about going out today, but didn't for the very reason you mentioned. Still may be a tad too early (for my liking).
It is always exciting to call them in, no matter the type of call. But I agree, I still get surprised sometimes on how easy some of them respond to the distress rabbit sound. Don't know why, but I do, and is partly why this game is so much stinkin fun. lol (if it weren't exciting & fun, we're in the wrong sport).

LOL... Yeah, Shoot-it, you are correct of course, but my lousy luck has caused us to kill wet bitches in the past and thus makes me a little gun shy. I felt like cxxp whenever we had done that in other words.
However, the last two I killed earlier this year were both young, dry females... Sooooooo ??

Use a bow That way you have to get them in real close . That way you can tell if they have pups or not.
. Im not calling now I have a squirrel war going on.
Oh wait most never come in that close.

You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Good job Shoot-it. Fun to get out there and get to see them. Even if they are to young to shoot you learn more all the time.

I don't have any where I hunt either it's the distress sounds them being hungry and curousity that brings them in.That's my opinion on the subject .

Yeah Tote, you do not need to have jacks in your area to be successful calling in a coyote with jack rabbit distress sounds.
Same with other sounds. You do not have to have prairie dogs in order for a prairie dog sound to work on coyotes. Stuff like that!
