Then these little guys will be in season. Scouting in two weeks, hopefully there are quite a few semi-close to me, but if not, the place up in Inyo is infested with them :D

Just be sure not to mistake them for their much less popular cousin

Hopefully we'll come across a hoard of them...unless they're the Monty Python variety and in that case, they're all yours

We should fare well, it's a big desert, but I know one spot in particular that they seem to love. Loaded up some very quick moving copper plated #5's in 12 and 20ga today. I know you've been on a jack quest, we will have to let you try them and see how well they work and how far they really reach out ;) . Those I think are also going to be my L O N G range chukar and shy dove loads with an extra-full choke in the recently choke tube tapped 1100 :751: . I may have to take just one since I have yet to see how the 60gr hp's in the .243 work. May not be pretty though. Let us hope the wind don't catch us again this time, and don't forget the sunscreen :doh[1]: . The last time out the family said I looked like a crab. Then the little :censored[1]: started calling me "Crabby Bob" :roflmao3[1]:
Looking forward to it.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. :signlol2iu: :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:

Man, where does the time go? I can't believe we're dang near smack in the middle of June already. Unreal!

Too funny, Ed on the shotguns for rabbits. I never (oops), seldom used one for rabbits (mostly jacks) when I hunted them years ago. I also used a 22lr but hit 'em where ever I could, not being good, or patient enough for head shots only. LOL But now days I would use my 22 mag rifle or revolver. And may be sooner than later, with my grandkids getting to that age (whatever age that is. lol).

Dang, all this talk is giving me the itch to get out again... even with all the snake sightings and all. LOL

Any kind of gun is cheating. :bleh[1]: They just sit there and stare at you with them big brown doll eyes . :P I realy can't see how any one can kill one .So cute and fuzzy.Im going to have to Just go fishing till the season opens .Latlly its like Im an addic and some one waving a baggie in front of me. They seem to wise up pretty quick once you start hunting them. I think my new air rifle is going to get work out on them this year. Its going to be a long three weeks.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

Truth be told, for rabbits, they will mostly be used by the nephew or others I hunt with who still use shotguns. That is why I was at the range (ugh) last weekend getting the .22mag dialed in. That one along with the the .357 lever and 39A are my favorite to hunt them with. But now that I am working 6 days and driving 300+ miles round trip for one day of hunting on Sundays, I probably will not hesitate to break out the scattergun after mid day if my shooting is not quite up to par yet :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow: .

And yes Frank, I am like the "you" of the shotgun reloading world. If 1-1/8oz of plated 5's at nearly 1600fps don't do the trick, I don't know what will!!!

I'll being doing like ShooterJohn and using my airguns. It may take me a little longer to get 5 in one day, but I'm pretty sure I can do it. I am looking forward to July 1st. :)

My other option is to take my Marlin 81-DL-.22 out there for it's reintroduction into the field after 40 years of inactivity. :)

You need to come up to Yo-Yo county with me. My dad went up this weekend to check on the place since they haven't been there for a few weeks and said the cottontails were eating the grass that hadn't been cut for a couple weeks. Guess there was about 6 or 7 of them out there just going to town. I hate to have to drive 600 miles round trip for one day of hunting,............but I will if I have to B) .

Isn't Inyo on the NorthEast side of Yosemite? I remember fishing at Tioga Lake and I think that is technically in Inyo National Forest, but it has been a long time (about 23 years) since I've been to Tioga Lake.

Man that brings back memories of reeling in huge rainbow trout. :)

Where we're at is about an hour and a half from where the San Berdoo Co., Korn Co, and Yo-Yo Co. lines meet in the Owens Valley, and Southeast of Yosemite. Lots of good fishing for sure! My usual and favorite spot is just over half way up there. If we don't see a whole lot in two weeks while we're out there I will make the drive. But I don't see any reason for it not be as good as everywhere else again this year.

Any kind of gun is cheating. :bleh[1]:

I tried the same method I use for bear, which is wearing a loin cloth and rubbing honey all over my chest while holding just a Bowie knife, but it just didn't seem to work as well with rabbits. Plus, there was the whole incident with someone calling the Cops thing............. :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:

It's funny too, because shotgun is pretty much the only thing I push that hard. My 20ga 7/8oz loads are in the mid 1400fps, and even my 1-1/2oz 12ga loads are just over 1300fps :yikes[1]: . That's quicker than most factory 1 or 1-1/8oz loads! But I tend shy away from the real top end rifle and pistol loads. Don't know why, but after listening and learning, I may have to play around a little more with them :good: .

If this season is anything like the last one, there should be plenty of Bunnies for all. As far as euipment goes, If I'm looking to fill the frezzer, 12 ga is my tool. If I go with my son, we use the .22LR, not as many but they sure are a lot more fun.

Yeah, Bob, it is indeed funny &/or peculiar the things we do, or don't do sometimes... Logic really doesn't have anything to do with it at times in other words. :doh[1]:

Anyway, I really do need to get back to the range now with my 22 mags, after all this hunting talk. Starting to itch all over! LOL

Yes sir, it is about that time of the year :yahoo: .
After posting that last night I got an order placed for some more 60gr hp Sierras and some 58gr V-max for the .243. The mild loads shoot well, but like I said, after all your guys' success with them "regrouping" if you will toward the upper limit I am intrigued and want to play around a bit. Unfortunately I will have to go to the range to try this, but.......Sacrifices must be made :504: . I have always started off mild and quit when I found a decent load, but it just goes to show, I guess you really can teach an old dog new tricks B) . You are just one of many bad influences on here Frank, thanks :good:

:smiley-funny-post-sign: and I see I may be in trouble again... Yikes! :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:

Yeah, Bob, I just now got back from the range with both 22 mags... a Savage rifle & Ruger revolver. Awesome weather & fun shooting. Well with the rifle anyway. I really did use to (past tense) shoot a handgun better, but those days are obviously gone. lol

The rifle shot beautiful one hole, 5 shot groups (consistently)... at 25 yards! lol (true story).... but that ended after I moved the target to 50 & then 100 yards... I thought the groups were still ok though at those longer distances; 3/4" & 1 5/8" respectively. The revolver made gorgeous shotgun patterns at 25 yards & is likely why I'll just clean & "store it" here on out. lol I really do like this handgun & will keep it, but seldom use it (since I can't hit anything with it).

Anyway, I'm all ready for something to die now... Film at 11 lol

Braz, it is a Ruger Single six, single action revolver. It has 2 cylinders, one for 22 mag and the other for 22 lr. It has a 9 1/2" barrel on it.

Braz, you are absolutely right of course.... I could tell I hadn't shot it in quite awhile... especially when comparing my OLD targets to todays. YIKES! lol

LOL, There ya go Bob... Almost like Clint Eastwood's movie "Forgiven", where he (is older) & had to use a shotgun instead of his pistol, as he could no longer hit anything with the pistol... old age really is a bxxch... LOL
