The wind wrecked havoc on us yesterday. The rifle shoot really well. The shooters however did not fare well. Anyway, here's the pictures from yesterday 1K shoot.

The wind was gusting intermittent from 5 to 12 miles/hour. The weird thing was, it changes from left to right. Then there were times when the wind at 500 was blowing opposite of the 1000 yards. I dope 3MOA left and wait for a mild wind but kind of tricky lifting your head off the scope and observed the flag. I can't rely on my spotter because of his inexperience and can't hear half the time anyway. The guy on my left has a JP brake on his rifle. The thing was so loud. Anyway no excuses. My shooting sucks.

Here's my score.

Were you guys up at WEGC? I know the wind in that pass is terrible at times.

Yep, I can imagine... I mean, just watch the flags folks use out to only 100 yards. Wind is continuely changing, including complete 180's; & back & forth. 1000 yards could be a nightmare I would think. Not to mention gusts & swirling winds along with it. YIKES!

I have enough trouble at my pee-wee, short range distances out to approx 325 (+/-) yards. And while I do monitor the wind when coyote hunting, I do not get as hung up about (the wind), due to it's constant changing. One second you're down wind, the next you're up wind.

Anyway, Fox, :signs1180lq:

1,000yrds, gusty winds, accross a canyon! Every shot on the the target! I sure would be pleased. :signs1180lq: Not your regular outstanding ragged 1 hole groups but still outstanding!

We're at the Desert Marksman Rifle Club in Palmdale.

Rob, I'm shooting my 6.5-47 Lapua. It's a capable 1000 yards cartridge, shooting the high B.C 130 grain Berger Target VLD's. At 2900 fps + velocity, it would take no more than 25 MOA of come up from my 110 yard zero to get to 1 K.

Thanks Rusty. I guess I did okay considering that this was my first competition after a year of lay-off. I will be better next time around. I just need practice.

Yuck, Palmdale. Yeah, the winds there are not your friend. Especially come October and later for bird season.

Sorry ,
Palmdale = Meth Labs & wind . If 1 don't screw you , the other 1 will ^_^

But great shooting considering the conditions & your spotter .

If I was able too & you provided the spotting scope , I would not mind trying it once .
