Dale is this something new since they banned hunting them in 91 or have they always been down this low.I am really surprised one is here in the grass lands it is going to wipe out all the deer the dfg planted a few years ago. This is the first time I ever heard of one being in this area.Yea Johnny we've seen sign at our duck club which is only 10 or so miles south of China Island. I know that the Newman duck club which is just to the south has seen sign there also. They seem to follow the creek and river channels down into the valley looking for dinner.
I hunt the stevinson corp land and it's north of the San Joaquin river on the other side of china Island I hope i don't call that sucker in.I would always say I was not in lion habitat so I never worried about it tell now lol.

Mountain lions have been in my part of the valley for years. I can remember one near Sacramento State College in 1994.

To get back to your first question, hunting china island is one of my favorite places to hunt ducks. You have to be fast, and know where your going. I don't waste any time worrying about lions though, I figure if they can sneak up on a deer, me and my senses don't stand a chance.

The ones you seen on your game cam are they west of I-5 in the hills ?
They banned lion hunting and now they are moving down into the valley isn't this great.
.........
About a month ago one of our irrigaters at 2 am in the morning saw a strange animal crouched next to a barb wire fence he said it was grey color and had a big head it then jumped over the fence cleared it and had a long tail.He kept telling me it looked like a monkey but i told him unless someone had a monkey as a pet and got away then it was probably a lion.
