Got out this morning for a few stands. Last minute decision to go out... Like 12am decision
but heck its been a while so why not, right? I get to the ranch at 515 and head out. As I'm walking to my first stand the path dips down a bit, I catch some movement and a coyote is looking down at me, 25 yards maybe. I make eye contact and it turns and trots off to be shot another day. My first stand was a blank, a couple of howl backs but that's it. My second stand I'm set up overlooking a nice bowl that runs down and opens up to a couple thousand acres. My favorite spot out there, I'm at the 12 minute mark and 3 coyotes come up over a bluff 600 out and sit. I was playing lightning jack. At the 20 minute mark I switch to pup dis 3, and they stand up, but nothing... I go through dsg cotton, lightning, waning, scream n jack, scream n rabbit, AND fem challenge, coyote growl finished with pup screams..... NO MOVEMENT! They just sat there and looked toward the caller. I'm stuck, I don't want to move but its Been 43 MINUTES! I look at my sound list and settled for one last vol squeek. BINGO! All 3 turned like soldiers and got in single file and marched straight toward me. They dipped into a draw and appeared right on line! The lead coyote sped up and sepetated a bit. I looked at the back 2 and before I knew it the lead coyote was coming through the fence! 125 yards away and closing on the caller. I aimed center chest as it was coming straight at me and squeezed... Boom, THWACK! It was a loud hit and it stiffened up and crumbled! I move to the fleeing 2 and squeeze one off, miss. The downed coyote got up during this a run 300 yards down the fence line and piled back up 20ft from the fence. I get over to the coyote, I see it laying in the tall grass but these 6 young bulls wouldn't back off and letme over! They kept pacing the fence snarling any bucking.... NO THANK YOU! I left it right there. A couple more stands and nothing. Sorry no pics this time! I thought it was a solid center chest hit, used remington 45 grain Jhp. I'm going to give them another try, but may be going up to 50+ grains. That's my hunt this morning.Carlos SORRY FOR THE POST TITLE! Oh I may trade that winchester model 1200 for a reloading set up.
