Wow, I don't think I've ever seen this forum this dead. Is it the new forum program? Or, is everyone out blasting coyotes? :crazy:I must admit, it will take some getting used to. :rofl2:

It's probably the new forum and people are having difficulty finding and answering posts. I've gotten several emails that some can't even figure out the personal message system. I'm sort of sorry this had to be changed but it was either change and upgrade or close down the forum because the old one could no longer be fixed.

I like the new forum look. Some things are in slightly different areas but once you get it figured out it works great. Seems to be a bit faster than the old forum.

March / April etc has typically been slower months if my LOUSY memory serves me right? A fair number of us are not hunting predators right now. I normally use this time of year for range work. Plus can't imagine the Predator section being any harder to use than the others. But hey, I am also computer "challenged", so ?? LOL

Well, I went back into the stats for forum activity and Frank wins the jelly beans. April, May, June and July are the slowest months for site activity. I only went back five years but it was the same every year. People start laying of the coyotes until August and September and then activity picks up until March where it really starts to drop off.

Don't forget about graduations, Easter, Mothers and Fathers Day, 4th of July, Memorial weekend, and we can't forget the dreaded April 15th tax day :014: all in a 4 month period . Even when I worked in the emergency restoration business (water and fire damage), most folks would cash out from the insurance company and take the money during the April/May time of year. It was very noticable every year. You factor that in with the self imposed season restraint by many and you see why it is so quiet. What we could/should do is to encourage write ups and pics that include vacations, range trips/results, and lets not forget about the warm water opening up the fishing trips here real soon. That should help keep us all entertained and and suppress our needed "fix" until fall :D . Then we can hear all the stories about the greatest hunting of all, BIRDS, oh yeah, and coyotes too Frank :D :eck05: :bleh[1]: :rofl2: :pot:

LOL... Good points, Bob... including the insurance fraud, er, I mean claims. I had not heard that before. Interesting! An aquaintance of mine still works in the flood etc damage business. In his case though, it's the customers that better watch their wallets. LOL

its an easier process to load than to build snares!! I build the snare then comes the work. Wipe it with acetone to get the machine oil off them. Boil, spray paint flat blk/brown,and then dip in Formula one.(all that work to have a rancher leaning over your truck handleing your snares!) you need all the help you can get when your working after the fact. The best coyote control method for livestock predation that I have stumbled upon ,is to take a new or old fence and dig a few natural coyote holes in it and set snares in them. If they want in, you caught them, if they stay out, fine too. If you wait until they dig in you are behind the curve as they can usually detect any changes done to there route. I was lucky enough to watch one getting caught. Very interesting, how it pulled up to withen about 40' and visually checked it out smelling and looking before hitting the hole at full speed. The hole fence screeched when everything came taught.

Well...I'm new to the forum...so it seems about normal to me...I haven't worked for months, now finally have some work, and in-laws staying with us...so won't be doing much hunting. But in May, I'll make up for it, and hopefully get to meet some members and go hunting. I have some good old spots, and some new ones to check out!

Same here, if you would please. I'm having a hard time figuring how they get caught up in the snare and hope a picture of it will help let my aging brain see how it works. Sure sounds like quite an ordeal.

Eric you don't just let the snares roll around in the back of your truck and let skunk essence get all over them? I have only had one coyote job and I solved the problem with a dead dog. In the urban environment they sure are a time consuming animal to catch. Most of the coyote calls I get are from people that want you to just scare them away or live trap then. I don't have the patience for that.

The forum is not dead. Damn coytes are gettign harder to find with the pupping season still in full force. Its like deer season and they have all gone nocturnal. I have taken this time to concentrate on turkey and Pigs and maybe start diving early just to beat the boredom.

Okay, maybe not the best choice of terms. Not dead! I know that if I wasn't working so damned much I'd be on here or out hunting and calling more. :good:The week of the 16th I'll be out of town at a military vehicle club meet at Tower Park just west of Lodi on Hwy 12. :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:
