I went out to get the mail this morning and had a few feathered visitors greet me. They challenged a neighbors truck for the right of way and then just milled around while I snapped a few pictures. They're fun to watch but can be very destructive in a vegetable garden. Maybe I should look into a Depredation Permit. :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

I'm thinking 'mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce'.

Make sure you get the spotlights and lasers added to that depredation permit SJ  I am extremely :) , it looks like eating wild turkey may be just as easy as drinking Wild Turkey in your area :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow: Hmmmm, wonder what would happen if you actually gave a wild turkey, Wild Turkey? Then again, maybe that's why he was picking a fight with a truck? That sounds vaguely familiar....... or at least it felt like it afterward :)

I'll have that added to my permit Bob. :lol:Unfortunately we have a lot of turkeys injured and killed around here by drivers. The turkeys won't move or move fast enough and get hit by cars. I always give them the right of way but have had people drive around me and almost run them down they are in such a hurry.

I'm sure you have thought of it before John, but have you ever asked to see if they will let you take one that you know is freshly killed (and by accident of course). I have never tried it myself here in CA, but I do know that CO, DOW or State Troopers are allowed to issue permits for "road kill" at discretion. I even got a call from a trooper while back there once asking if we wanted a fresh 4 point killed on the highway only minutes before (Uncle was a State Trooper). I know it's another state (maybe even world) all together, but am curious if you have tried in the the obviously much more rural and beautiful part of the state?

No Bob I haven't checked into it. But we sure have had a number of injured and dead one in years past. We had a coyote that decided he liked turkey better than cat and did a number on them once. That coyote didn't last very long and the turkeys stopped being torn up.

Wow! Usually you have to go to where the turkeys are. Where you are at the turkeys come to you. If only they knew...

You know it is turkey season pretty quick, of which they will probably disappear, but i can take care of a couple of your problems for you with my bow. It's a wonder how quiet it is when they just disappear and no shot fired. just saying.
