At least California doesn't hire people to shoot them from helicopters like Nevada.

I think it's because the guys in Nevada have a hard time shooting them from the ground. :smiley-innocent-halo-yellow:

Leftfoot, I prolly have 10 days worth of calling around the Carsoncity area under My belt, and never called a single coyote. Just a Mt Lion. I think the areas I hunted were prolly hunted all the time. I bet if you got away from the close to town areas you would fare better. Good luck

Yeah leftfoot, I'm not trying to turn you off to going just want you to know that Nevada is very proactive to the aerial hunting of coyotes. They have a well funded program to kill as many coyotes as possible to help ranchers, deer herds and other wildlife. Try a Google search for Southern Nevada coyote hunting. Or just Nevada coyote hunting in general and see what I'm taking about. One of my old high school hunting and trapping buddies works for Nevada Game and Fish department and has told me how much the coyote population has dropped in recent years due to these programs. It not olny seems to be working at lowering their number but it also make them more shy of hunters too.

That's some damn fine shooting...knocking them out of Helicopters and airplanes. To the original poster...Just go and find out. Lots of Coyotes out there and some great land to be seen. The adventure is part of it.

I just got back from north of Fernley this weekend. We did not call any yotes in but we saw a ton of country.I will be going back real soon. The wind hurt us bad. Get yourwself some good maps and a gps and go exploring. It took me half a day to stop looking over my shoulder for someone coming to kick us out.So much ground out there and we own it all.We put 150 miles on dirt roads in one day.Cell phone worthless out there ,,be prepared or take 2 trucks like we did.

What Shooter John said. We have a few coyotes left here but those are the ones that figured out how to survive. I and a friend from Susanville were up in the Smoke Creek desert calling and they were aerial gunning the next valley over. We called up a coyote and then watched him take cover under a bush all of a sudden, then we heard the helicopter comming. I shot that one. The coyote, not the helicopter. That and they are brought up listening to Foxpros. We have some coyotes left but they get pounded year around and everybody that lives in Nevada seems to think they are some sort of predator control expert but all I have seen is that there are a lot of predator calling wannabes live here educating them little yellow eyed bastids. Good luck and don't get stuck out here in the brush. It is a long walk to the next ranch sometimes and for the most part cell phones don't work out here. Good luck...Walt

A couple years ago, I contacted a USDA Wildlife Specialist supervisor for some advice on where to hunt coyotes in Nevada. At the end of that phone call, I had jotted down a list of his recommendations... ALL in California! Here's their February newsletter summarizing their depredation efforts for the month:http://agri.nv.gov/n...er_Trapline.pdf
