Clampdaddy and I went out looking for crows again this morning. Same routine, out to the field at 6am, all set up ready to go at 6:15am, start the calls about 6:30-6:45ish. As soon as we fired the calls up, we had one come in real low and a single shot of #8 shot took care of him. It was quiet for about 10 minutes after that, then it was like someone opened the flood gates and a wave of crows came in. Between the 2 of us, we were taking turns of 1 guy shooting while the other was reloading. Knocked several down, then it slowed back down to normal (still getting a bird about every 5-10 minutes). Things slowed down to almost nothing around 8:45 so we packed up and left a little after 9:00. We ended up with 30 birds total, but I only shot about 10 of them so now I'm a firm believer that the turkey choke is the only way to go. Clampdaddy was reaching out and killing ones after I had already knocked a couple of their feathers off and they were flying away. I was already beating myself up over missing so many birds and he was ribbing me about my "cheap Mossberg  " so we made a stop at Alquist Arms on the way home and I started the waiting period on a Remington 870 SPS 3.5" Super Magnum Camo w/28" barrel. Here's a pic of the birds lined up on the tailgate:Posted ImageAnd here's a pic of my new crow slayer (after the 10 day wait, of course):Posted Image

:D LOL!!! No, I didn't. Although that would be funny as hell, I don't think I could do it. I'd probably be laughing too hard and with my luck the postal workers would probably call the cops on me. I could just hear the 911 call right now "There's some big redneck down here dressed in camo with a bunch of dead birds waving a Fish & Game rulebook around. You better send back-up!" :D

Hey Shooter Ill go with you to the post ofice that would be a kik in the pants. Nice shooting Lilwes.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

That's ok, I'll probably be shooting Matt's 870 and Adam will be shooting my Mossberg because he's buying it to help fund my 870 upgrade. Matt's gonna be shooting his over & under and I told him I'd buy him lunch for using his 870 so I think we've got it covered. Thanks though!

Wes You might want to try a heavier load. My experience with 8 shot and crows hasn't been good. At a minimum I use hi-base 6's and have used 5's & 4's with good success. Crows are a tough bird and 8's at 40 yds. may not have the power to break a wing. Found the same to be true with barnies too.

Darren, it's sort of an inside joke I've been threatening to take the state and feds up on their stupid rules for handling crows.?485. American Crow.( c ) No person shall kill or cripple a crow pursuant to this section without making a reasonable effort to retrieve the bird, and retain it in their actual custody at the place where taken or between that place and either: (1) their automobile or principal means of land transportation; or (2) their personal abode or temporary or transient place of lodging; or (3) a migratory bird preservation facility; or (4) a post office; or (5) a common carrier facility. So one of these times I want to stop in at the Post Office on the way home and say can you hang on to these for me. After all it's the LAW! B) B)

How funny would that be?!?! :D If everybody picked a common day and went out and shot a good pile o' crows each, then have everybody meet at the Sac. post office with a dumptruck full of crows. B) I'd love to see the look on the postmasters face! B)
Sharps, the rifle that made the west safe for Winchester!

My rifle is mine, it isn't for sale, and I only give guns to people that I really like.

I could just see taking a bunch of nasty dead crows to the San Dimas Post Office. Very funny! It is the law after all and the Sheriffs office is right across the street.Darren

One of these days I just have to try it. I think I'll talk to my mailman first and see what he thinks. He's a pretty level headed guy. I wouldn't want the Postmaster to go postal on me.  ;)

I asked my mailman what they did with the crows when they were brought in. He says, "Huh?" I told him what the regs stated and he says, "You have to be kidding." I assured him that I wasn't and would dig up a copy for him. He thought about it a bit and said that his Postmaster did not have a very good sense of humor and would love to see his face when a sack full of crows were dumped on him. Me too.
