When I use these I try for head, spine, or shoulder shots. If I break the shoulder, the bones turn into projectiles and stop the crawl aways. I have to limit my shots to 70yds. These are not much fun to use. But I have a Bird Biologist living accross the street Who has ask several times what ammo I use. My house is in the lead ban area, but its only a short drive to get out! DR
I had the same experience hunting ground squirrels with it, DR. The Winchester tin .22LR didn't expand well and just ice picked small holes through and through. I shot one ground squirrel 5 times and it was still crawling off. I'll never use it again.

Over four years later and I don't see any good 22 LR Lead Free ammo being made or available.
I just did some searches and didn't find any 22 LR Lead Free ammo anywhere. Even the junk that isn't worth buying is out of stock.
It looks like my grandson will have to start out with a 223 Rem shooting 35 gr Hornady NTX bullets instead of a 22 LR.
