I've got a Mountain Feist coming in from Kentucky next month to get ready for tree squirrels this year. Anyone ever use one out here? Worth the time? I just like having a dog, so I would think hunting with a dog would definitely beat stalking. But I don't see or hear a lot about any type of dog hunting other than bird dogs in California, which is why I wonder if there are people that hunt with them out here.

That's more of a back east type of hunting. Different squirrels too. To hunt tree squirrels out here it usually takes sitting and waiting as they often hide when they see you. But having a hunting partner in a good dog is a pleasure.

Thanks for the reply, John. Yeah, I figured it was more of an east coast hunting style.. I just heard about Feist from the military from a friend from Kentucky.. and after a few years of thinking about it.. finally decided to try and ship one here.. I don't expect it to be a magic tracker or anything, but I think it'd be a new way to enjoy hunting squirrels out here.

Most of our grey squirrels have been poached out in CaTom

Definitely see a lot less than what I used to see as a kid out with my dad.

that kemmer cur hound that I have was breed up by kemmer. for hunting squirrel. And when they are not running fox or cat mine will tree squirrel. They have a good nose ,they can easily smell what tree there in. You ought to here that dog when you get one jumping tree to tree.
