I was talking to an old hunter one day. He is a Minnesota guy and has done a lot of hunting in his time. He told me when hunting rabbits to give a loud whistle when they take off running and they will stop dead in their tracks. Has any one ever heard of or tried this?

I heard that as a kid and have tried it over the years with some success. But nothing except a bullet is 100%.

I wonder if whistling makes the the rabbits think that a redtail hawk is around and that is why they freeze?

You have to use bait on those bunnies. They like lots of greens and shinny things.

My cousin told me about that when I was in Texas on our family's ranch. I thought he was messing with me, but when I tried it out it actually worked on the jackrabbits. I was able to take 2 of them with a .22 revolver from about 25 yards easily with them standing still for me.It doesn't seem to work at all for cottontails, but it works most of the time for jacks.
