Hey guys I got a Mossberg 817 a week ago (still waiting before I can pick it up, stupid Kalifornia). Its got the standard synthetic stock with a bull barrel.http://www.mossberg....fault.asp?id=29
Item#37097I wanted to get the one with the thumbhole stock but could not find one for a decent price. So I called Mossberg and asked if they would sell me just the stock, initially they said no so I asked to speak with a supervisor, and they said they will make an exception because I am a long time loyal customer (I've bought 3 500s, 1 590, and have convinced 3 others to buy 500), so I've got the thumbhole stock on the way for $35 bucks. I'm pretty stoked about that. So the thumbhole stock comes with an integrated "tip-down" stock at the end (basically a ghetto grip) and I need to wait until I get it to see if I can do what I want to do with it. I want to try and integrate an m4 style ghetto grip with a push-button bi-pod, it might take some ghetto rigging, but it might just be stupid enough to work. If it doesn't I'm gonna go ahead and put a barrel clamp bi-pod on it and see how much it affects accuracy, if at all. With the bull barrel and the projectile moving so fast (2550 fps) I'm hoping it wont move too much, if it does I'll take it off.Also-- I'm trying to decide what kind of scope to put on it. I haven't used a turret scope since I was in the Army and I'd like to get back to using them. Here's my dilemma though:They're expensive even for a piece of crap one (about $80) and since its really only about a 200 yard max gun, do I really need it? Otherwise I'm just going to go with a mil-dot, zero it at 100 yards (50 yard shots with a 100 yard zero is a +.1inch hold under). I don't know. I know the vast majority of the shots are going to be 100 yards or less, but I'd really like the ability to reach out and tap poop at 150-200 (granted there is little wind).Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas? After everything is said and done on it I want to be under $350 for this, so I've got about $100 left. I can squeeze a little bit more in there.
