Ok has anyone read water dog by Richard a wolters? Well I am having some trouble w my 4 month old yellow lab she is great at retrives today she was doing 200 yard retrives I have 2 problems that the book doesn't really explain how to fix. And was hoping there was a decent trainer out there that can help meOne I have no idea how to send her out for a bird and have her heel 30 yards out so I can give her the right or left hand signal I've tried giving her the heel command but she just returns to me and heels on my right side The next problem I am having is on the way back from the longer 50+ yard retrives she seems to drop the bumper a few times but it almost seems like cause she doesn't grab it that hard it just seems it slips out of her mouth she always delivers it to hand but I'm wondering if she has too soft of a grip or the bumper is just too big. Any help would be apprecatedAnd yes I know a lot of u might think I'm asking too much from a young dog but my opinion is that if she is old enough to be potty trained y can't she be trained for ducks Thanks Joe

Two issues. Trainers don't force fetch pups until they are 7-8 months old. Why? because the pups need their adult teeth. Sore mouths don't work for training. Training a pup to sit For hand signals is imho ridiçulous. Let it be apup. you have until next fall to get some in the field training. Don't push a pup too hard. I've seen some major disasters to some dogs that had a whole bunch of.potential.

I've read that book and several others. Been training dogs (mostly Labs) since the late 60's. A 4 month old pup doesn't have their adult teeth. That's why they love to chew on everything. To get a dog started on hand signals first you must teach it to sit to the whistle. Then you begin playing baseball with the dog. Obviously you're going to do what you think is best for the dog. Good Luck!! Enjoy the pup.

Sorry I didn't understand. If you're trying to absorb some knowledge from my brain UR out of luck. I need and use it to concentrate on trying to use proper English and punctuation. I went back and looked at some history. I guess I misunderstood your post that your pup was only 4 months old. Looks like it must be 1 yr 4 months from your earlier posts from a year ago. That would explain it having it's adult teeth. Have fun training your dog.
