If you are going to be on the East side of Kern county I might be able to go.

What are you using to take them ? I might be interested. I was thinking of going to my ground squirrel spot this weekend in Kern county since the weather was going to be nice...Henry

I've been out in the desert the last few days and haven't seen one lousy jack rabbit. I went out today to try and call a coyote or two but there are so many people in the desert right now it looks like the 405 at 1700 hours!Armyshooter, have you seen any jacks out your way? I was out off Garlock Road a few weeks ago before my knee surgery and took one coyote. I have to be real careful for the next few weeks until I heal up.
Now, don't try to get away! I am more muscular, more cunning, faster, and larger than you are, and I am a genius. Why you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten.

Upland mbw if wasn't for my truck acting up and the parts coming in around that time I would have taken you up on the offer.Broncowilly, I just got back from Italy on the 22nd and have only been able to get out once so far. All I saw was a few quail and 3 cottontails, no jacks but it was a short outing.

All good armyshooter. I'm sure we'll get a chance to hunt together at some point.ShooterJohn, the primary purpose of my trip is to acquire Jack Rabbit meat. It is amazing when prepared properly. I only hunt for food. Thanks for the heads up though
A 5 lb hare with no season and large numbers is too good to be true for me. RWS- 20 gauge. It's my only weapon and probably the perfect jack harvester. I've never hunted squirrel. Do you personally consume them? I'd love to try it. I assumed that it was primarily the grey squirrel that is hunted. They're so much bigger, and I haven't heard much about harvesting ground squirrels for food. I'd be very interested though. What is the general vicinity of your squirrel grounds? What do you take them with? My 20 with light loads would probably get the job done, i reckon. Matt

Man, if I wasn't out of town I'd love to meet up with other hunters. Jacks are a year long affair, maybe we can meet up sometime.

Hi MattRight now I like using my .25 Marauder for ground squirrels or jack-rabbits. Lol, I don't eat any of them either. The only things that I'll eat are dove and quail. The spot where I go ground squirrel shooting is right by Tehachapi too. Sucks, I can't go tomorrow either
... Going to probably go on Sunday, which is supposed to be a very nice day.Henry

I'm actually not going to be able to get out until monday. will you be around, or working? I've got a deal for you- shoot tons of jacks and squirrels, and I'll eat them all! Would love to try squirrel hunting too...
