went scouting a new area this weekend, found some tracks but hardly any poop, no rubs, no deer, and a possible scrape... you guys think this is a scrape, its about 18" long:Posted Imagethis was an area where there were a lot of cattle signs... when cattle bed they lay down the grass but i found one bed next to a tree that might have been a deer bed, what do you guys think (i didn't see any wallows, only folded down grass), its about 5' long and 2.5' wide:Posted Imagealso, there was a lot of this stuff, looked likes feed but have no idea, it is some kind of "fruit" a little large than a golf ball, no idea what it is:Posted Imageany tips or suggestions on finding deer sign?.

While I'm no expert, I would say that I don't think the blacktail, mule deer we have around here make scrapes like the whitetail we see on tv. The areas I hunt have tons of deer sign, but not in the form of rubs and scrapes. In fact the only rub I know of is on a chinese elm about 50 yards out my front door. Everywhere I have found deer beds, I have also found lots of droppings.

A deer bed is going to be small. The bed in your pic is from a cow. That is not a deer scrape. Like Tommybuilt said I don't think the deer out heremake a lot if any scrapes. But if they did it would be an 18" or so circle. The best way to find fresh deer sign is to watch a deer and when it leaves go look whereit was. :smiley_kewlpics: Otherwise you just have to wear out some boots.

Scrapes are usually made by dominant bucks and usually smell like urine.

It is hard to tell from the picture the size of the scrape marks, no reference. If you are sure that it was done by a deer then they were most likely after something in the dirt. They get a lot of minerals from the dirt as well as other tasty treats that grow after a rain. There are mineral supplements on the ground in this area. Posted ImageGood luck with your huntsing!

Local native American tribes, including the Pomo, Yokut, and Luiseño, used the poisonous nuts to stupefy schools of fish in small streams to make them easier to catch.[2] The bark, leaves, and fruits contain the neurotoxic glycoside aesculin, which causes hemolysis of red blood cells. Buckeye also makes a good fireboard for bowdrill or hand drill.
Thanks for the fishing tips.

Whitetail and Mule Deer have very simlar habits when it comes to feeding and minerals. I have seen both types of deer in the same fields feeding next to each other at the same time.

Frosty is just hanging out in the front yard.
