So I got thisPosted Image but I don't think it sounds anything like the Chukars I am encountering in the field. I think I have been scaring everything away with this as it sounds like a squeeky toy. Has anyone had any experience using this call? Does anyone try to imitate Chukar calling and if so, will you teach a poor soul?

Yes they work, and yes, they do sound like a squeak toy. For close calling, cup your hand over it and experiment how to hold it until it makes the sound you want. And remember, it is extremely sensitive! You only have to slightly tap the bottom of it. Do not try to use the entire stroke of the call. Simply a 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch tap is all that is necessary. And all though it may sound very high pitch to you, I do believe it is done so the sound will travel a lot farther. If you stand a ways away and have someone else use it, you will realize it sounds just fine at a distance. Always stops me in my tracks when my buddy uses it and I'm not ready to hear it :birth: And it sounds just fine. The only drawbacks I found with this call is the open sound chamber and the sensitivity of it. The open tube collects dirt, feathers, and debris. And the damn thing makes noise just from bouncing around since it is soooooo sensitive. I did however find a cure for both problems for $.79. A short length of string and a plug from The Home Depot solves this problem. Again, you will see my high dollar (but very effective) kite string lanyard :smiley-outta-here: Posted Image

I would tap on it occassionally to imitate what I remembered Chukar sounded like but it was windy most of the day so it was in my orange blaze vest pocket making sounds on it's own as I was traversing the terrain. I'll have to practise some more and try again the next time I head out.

Yep, got tired of that myself, thus the 79 cent plug in it. I'll have to do a little research also since I don't see much out there on their on sounds for ya.

I use the same call. It works...as said, kinda muffle the call with your hand to control the amount of sound/air coming from it. You can get some decent sounds from it.
