I was chatting with my brother from OH yesterday and we talked a bit about that big buck in Ohio Amish country, and he said there's rumors that that deer was castrated 3 years ago - and that if a deer is castrated it doesn't lose it's rack.Have you heard any mention of this - that it may have been castrated? I did a web search but came up empty on it.

The problem is that there are always rumors of some sort of "Cheating" that surrounds a deer of the one killed by the Amish man in Ohio. It's a Jealousy thing among trophy Whitetail hunters, that I just can't stand. These days no one can kill a truely giant deer and just get a pat on the back and the congratulations that they deserve. The Castrated part of this story is "NOT" true. The other thing looming over this buck in the "ARCHERY" community is the fact that the guy killed it with a crossbow and among the bow hunting circle, shooting a crossbow is considered taboo, so of course all hell was raised when that little piece of info came out.Another thing is the fact that this buck has the chance to pass the current Non-Typical record killed with archery equipment, known as the "Beaty Buck" also from Ohio. Bring the crossbow back into the picture and you'll see why the good old boys don't want the World Record Archery deer taken with a Crossbow, but it doesn't matter too much anyway since the official record keeper for ARCHERY is the ever out dated "POPE and YOUNG" club and they don't recognize crossbows. You can check out more on this deer and see just how ridiculous people really are over on www.archerytalk.com just do a search for "amish buck".No matter the outcome, the guy did his homework, did his scouting, knew where and when the deer was feeding and ended up in the right place at the right time and killed one of the biggest whitetails ever taken by a hunter, actually probably in the top three and for some reason alot of people just can't handle that, because it wasn't them that did it..By the way, as far as Whitetails taken by hunters here is the list.Lovstuen Buck- killed by 15yr old Tony Lovstuen of Albia Iowa = 322 4/8" gross 307 5/8" netBeatty Buck- killed by Mike Beatty of Ohio (archery) = 304 6/8" netAmish Buck- killed by John Schmucker of Ohio (archery) = 304 gross will be scored on Dec. 1st for final score.

It's simple, Archery Hunters don't like gun hunters and gun hunters don't like archery hunters.Archery Hunters think it's too easy to kill a deer with a gun and takes less hunting skills to be successful.Gun Hunters dispise the fact that most archery seasons are a lot longer than the gun seasons. This is not as noticable in the Western States where it is harder to archery hunt. What people don't realize is that gun seasons are shorter because more people enter the woods during that time, because it truely is easier to shoot a deer from 200yds, than have to try and get that same deer to withing bow range, so more deer get killed during gun seasons.

I know this guy a big time archery hunter he has a big ego always talks down too rifle hunters. He always telling how easy it is too kill game with a rifle so this deer season he gos on a deer hunt and takes his 270 hasn't fired it for 3 years he missed a 100 yard shot at a nice buck...
I haven't had a chance to rub it in yet. as for the Amish buck I always thought cross bow was considered a gun at least here in caly it its.I mean you can't use it during archery season.

A number of states have made Crossbow hunting during archery season a legal practice. Ohio being one of them. It used to be, "Nation Wide" that crossbows during archery season were for Handicapped only with a permit. I believe that none of the official record books recognize it yet though.
