well i have a question for you aftermarket choke guys. i have spent over 500$ on aftermarket chokes and have patterned only god knows how many choke/load combos. i haave found a few choke/shell combos i like but the search continues, and the 3rd dimention factor of a pattern is always in mind, so i was just woundering if anyone has the favorite choke/shell combo that works for them. i mainly shoot decoying ducks so all in all to most of you its dosent matter when there that close :sign_trolls: but my main question is has anyone tried the puregold waterfowl choke? or wad wizzard? these are 2 that i havent got around to yet but looking forward to buying the puregold. so any feedback on how it worked for you or your experiance with it would be greatly appriciated! thanks

Hey 240 supervarminter, I use Carlson waterfowl chokes (mid for morning hunts and switch to full chokes in the late morning/early afternoon) on my 12 gauge Charles Daly shotgun. Have you tried Carlson? They are good chokes.

I have tried neither puregold nor wad wizzard, sorry I cannot comment on them.

I have not tried it, but my best friend/hunting partner has watched a buddy use the Pattern Master choke or the last two years and is pretty much dead set in on one himself, especially after watching him drop dove consistently at 70 yards with bulk Wal-Mart ammo with a waterfowl choke. (Can't imagine how our reloads would do!!!) But he if he is willing to drop down $90 on a choke tube something had to impress him since he is even cheaper than I am, and that's saying a lot!

I've spent several thousand dollars on chokes and patterned quite a bit myself. You didn't mention what gauge you are working with, but I would guess 12 ga ?

If you want to kill birds the furthest away and have the largest pattern and heaviest payload, just quit messing around and get a 3 1/2" 10 ga gun. Get the forcing cones lengthened. Why mess with a smaller gun if maximum killing effectiveness is the goal?

The largest bore will have the shortest shotstring for the same payload. Maj. Burrard's testing where he had his wife tow a pattern board behind a car and drive past as he shot at her .... I mean the target, showed the larger bores gave shorter shotstrings for the same payload.
It's not about how many, it's about how.
Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog or gun

Maintain a balance of nature, use a beautiful gun when shooting a beautiful bird
