Got out there when I wanted to be . Also got to where I wanted to be as a have been seeing coveys in that area of good - great size (30-50 birds ) . I see a few run uphill & decide to give chase but GF passes on the stalk . Man it was soo cool when I got over the hump . the covey was just sitting there without a care in the world . Stalked them as close as possible , the bird flushed , I got 2 with the 1st shot . A double . Went after the other birds as some stayed up in the bush . Kicked it & out came 3 more Quail . I got 1 , hit another that I watched go to the ground & run away ( I bet they were vests ) & wished I had a 3rd rd ( was using my SXS ) .I get back out of my stalk to tell her to get over here & we reqroup & continue on the same covey . It never broke up & never flew more than a few yards when they flushed . I kept trying to get her on point but she keep behind me . We have a bush thats holding in front of us , I tell her get ready , kick the bush & the Quail flush but I am not sure where she was aiming as the birds were dead ahead of her & she did not get 1 . I got another . But later she told me that she was unsure of the distance to shoot them at & she was hesitated on pulling the trigger . But she does know that we have many other chances to go for Quail & next time she WILL get a brid . I as soo lucky that I got the 5 . Could have been more but still , not bad considering I am doing it myself with advice , thank you guys , and no dogs . Andy

Hotchkiss : Funny you mention the boat . My GF loves to fish but she gets seasick . But she toughed it out on a 1 1/2 trip & got a YFT on her own and learned " the do's & don'ts " of tuna fishing . But she wanted to go on my brothers 26' Striper , until I explained what the " bathroom " was 50+ miles off shore . She was not down for that . Break a leg on your hunt . I did not expect anything after weekend " pressure " but most of my birds came off of the 1 covey . Andy

Andy you spend alot of time up in the big bear areas? If so I got a spot and some questions for it. Pm me and maybe we can link up and chase some birds together in the spot I've been looking at.
