Not a monster, but his first. About 10:55 just getting ready to get out and go for lunch, noticed movement to the right. Got the binos and see feet coming through the woods. Told the boy that we had one coming in. While he was getting up the deer came into view and saw the horns. I told him it was a buck and to get the gun up. Window is to high to shoot sitting down for him so he has to kinda crouch. While standing up the deer noticed movement and was locked onto him. Would do the stare, look away, snap the head back trying to catch movement. Gave up finally and walked a few more steps allowing Michael to get the rifle up. I told him to find the shoulder and shoot. When he shot it went under the belly for a clean miss. He had the FEVER. Deer ran about 20 yards into the woods and then came back out! Second shot hit a little farther back than I wanted. Called my Dad on the radio and told him we were going to have a cup of coffee and go look for a gut shot deer. I could hear him chuckle as he has been there and done that with 2 young shooters. When we got out of the blind to go look for it, we got about 50 yards from the blind and it walked back across the trail, at this point I put it down for good. Big smiles all around. I did the knife work, but he donned the long plastic gloves and scooped out the guts himself. Said it was the best 99 cents I spent.Mike
