I'm new to hunting. During the open season for dove in September I went out to Lockwood (by fraizer park), Carrizo Plain and Jawbone (by California City). The only place I saw dove was at Jawbone (3 birds) but was unable to get close enough to get a shot.I'm a timid person so I'm not eager to look for private land and ask for permission. Could someone tell me what type of land doves like and how to scout for them? I hear them on occassion when I'm huting cottontails at Lockwood but I never see them. I also saw some (2 birds) at Carrizo yesterday during the quail opening and heard a few more in the early hours of the day. Oh and due to family and finances I only head out once a month or every other month so I would like to best make use of my time (preferably hunting cottontails while scouting; I tried hunting cottontails while scouting the week before quail season at Carrizo but I get a feeling they don't exist there!).I read an article (I can't remember where) where someone shot over 100 Eurasian Collared Doves somewhere around Bakersfield. I'm not looking to take as many since I only take as much as I can eat but it sounds like a fun time seeing that many birds.Any advice is appreciated.

Go east towards Colorado river or salten sea area, you'll see a lots of doves as well as lots of hunters.
