Well It wasnt the year I expected but it was still fun. I shot 9 and lost two :signbummer8tl: The coveys of quail were flushing pretty far and really not leaving the thick brush. But it was still fun, even when I almost was taken out by a spike buck running at me. I stopped him at about 15 to 20 yards since I was afraid of really being taken out. lol It was super hot and no breeze, which made me happy about buying a hydration pack this year. Hope everyone had a good opener.

Mine was no where near that productive lol. I went solo, got started late and they were busting cover out of range. I managed to down one only to have a red tailed hawk swoop in and take him. Hopefully tomorrow I do better.

I had done some scouting in the prior weeks and hadn't seen a soul out there but on opening day I found more than I had expected. This was my first time out for quail and I was pretty excited about it but unfortunately I am unable to aim and shoot. I fired round after round without success and I thought I might have connected on once since I saw feathers and thought I saw it go down. After 20 minutes of searching I was able to find a trail of feathers but no bird, I figure it was one lucky bird and I didn't hit it. My brother did better than me and was able to bag two birds. If we were able to shoot, we would have gotten our limits. It was a fun day all in all but I don't plan on heading out on another opener due to all the people.

I had a friend go out by Soda Lake (Carrizo Plains west on Highway 58) yesterday morning at 6:30 in the morning and had multiple coveys of big birds. The group was done by 11 AM.

I was out at Carrizo too but I was by Quail Springs. I was there until 5PM  though had I been a better shot I might have finished around the same time ;)

Thats where everyone must have been. I saw about 10 cars on the road going in and there was only two cars on the way out. And that was at 1pm. I will be going back after thanksgiving, and I hope the mountain quail come down by then.
