Sam, Chuck and I went to the American in Friday. We side drifted and back bounced roe. Fished hard and brought our fish home. Posted ImageChuck bringing in a salmon, Sam at the net.Posted Image

We've given it a try a few times from one of the hens we caught earlier in the season, but no luck on it as of yet. We are on the Sacramento though, and I swear they are more aggressive on roe further up the system closer to spawning beds. Just my take on it.

What cure do you use on your eggs? I tie egg loop hooks a glob of roe and a puffball. We use a 8-10" dropper and about a 30" leader. Your lead must be bouncing the bottom. I have punched holes in the top of the lead balls 1-6 oz because the numbers have been peened out. I have fished with guys that could not feel the bottom bouncing = no fish.

Pro cure. We're plunking eggs while anchored. We're holding them on the upstream edge of holes. Presenting bait right on the ledge. We're calling it "R&D," along with some other "secret" baits not from this state.
