2nd time that I ever hiked into anywhere for a weekend of hunting and the results couldn't have been much better.Saturday we saw 2 does all day. Nothing moving that had horns......Bummer!Sunday found me getting up at just before 1st light. We hiked in 4 miles to a spot a friend of mine and I hunted and scouted during archery season and it seemed like there were bucks everywhere. 15 in all that 1st trip in,But we didn't see any that 1st day of rifle season. So here we were sitting in camp at 1st light and the guy I had been there with during archery spotted deer on a slope about 1500 yards away. So we packed up and headed out for a good look at that steep a#$ slope. 1 of the other guys made a great 700 yd shot on a 3x2. We headed up the slope and i mean it was steep. 1/2 way up a buck jumped over a boulder uphill about 70 yds. a nice 3x3 it has a drop tyne on 1 side. I made a good shot on it and just after that the other guy in our group shot a 4x4 on top the ridge. All this took place between sunrise and 9am. By 10 am we had all bucks accounted for and we boned em out and made the approx. 1 mile hike back to camp and packed up and hiked back to the trail head and our trucks 4 miles away. Man were we beat, but man was that fun we had 4 guys in our party and 6 people total in the area we hunted in there was a couple horse packers up near the top of the ridge. and 3 in our group shot a buck was a great trip and i look to do it again next year.Only got pics of mine and the 4 point forgot in all the excitement to get pics of the 3x2 but it was kinda small anyway.Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

I've been wanting to hunt the Trinity Alps for years! Got all the books and maps, just haven't been able to get up there to scout. Hey, if you want one more for bow season next year you know who to PM!.....

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for being in the country illegally,… you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

Nice Bucks. I drew and X2 tag this year. Since I live close I have been doing a lot of scouting. Have seen some bucks, a couple nice 4x4's. But haven't found the one I want lol. Thanks for the story and the pictures, always enjoy reading about my favorite pastime. Ed

Cool stuff.
You can hop but you can't hide. Yahi Bowmen. Its not how far you can shoot but how close to the game you get when you shoot. Sights we don't need any sights. Why waist time reloading when I can be making arrows.

I forgot to add that the buck I shot was the same buck I missed during Archery season. We jumped it up in a creek bottom and I missed a 50 yd shot on it because my friend forgot to grab a new battery for the rangefinder and it died earlier the day. I guessed yardage and I was wrong. I'm 99% sure it was same buck because of the drop tyne.So it was nice to go back for rifle season and get another chance at a nice buck.
