I love my 25-06 as a deer and varmint round, and I would have no problem slapping a bear with it. I also love my 30-06s. They shoot pretty flat and have plenty of power for anything we have to shoot here in California. I drew an X-12 tag for the first time last year and it was totaly different than the hunting I'm used to. The deer were much bigger and the shots much longer. When I carried my 30-06 I wished I had a flatter shooting cartridge and when I had my 25-06 I wished I had a rifle that hauled more energy across the wide open sagebrush flats. I've settled on a 270 short mag (I like shooting cartridges that are different than what my buddies are shooting) and I'm totaly happy with it. If you'd like something that is easier to find ammo for I'd go with a 7 mag.
Sharps, the rifle that made the west safe for Winchester!

Real tractors have two cylinders and hand clutches.

My rifle is mine, it isn't for sale, and I only give guns to people that I really like.

Where are you hunting your bears? I have a bear tag, help!? The .270 is my favorite, too.

We were visiting to check out different areas & look at property. Our house will be going up for sale right after Christmas, and we are moving shortly thereafter.

It's ok, you don't have to be sad, I'll still hunt with you! :) Besides, you could always put in for some Oregon tags and Matt will still be here too (except for when he's up hunting with me)... :P We still have a couple months to go hammer some coyotes & some crows anyways, so let's make the most of it!

Hey everyone I did a little editing so we can get back on track. No offense to anyone but I didn't think we were getting anywhere. Thanks for understanding I hope.

Currently I'm shooting the Benelli R1 .300 win mag - overall this is the best gun I've ever owned and shot.

I recently picked up an R1 in 30-06 to pair with my Enfield M1917. One space-age, the other a classic. I'll tell ya, though, I'd rather carry the R1 if it's a long hike in...
Also stuck in So Cal. Hit me up!

Yea, the R1 is a nice gun. Am planning on taking it to Montana or Wyoming for Elk hunting next year. This year was just getting accustomed to it.

I practiced with, sighted in and took both rifles with me to Craig, CO for my first deer hunt in Oct., but ended up taking my doe with the Enfield as it was my grandfather's and he gave it to me. Call me sentimental! My only complaint about the R1 is that Benelli's "iron" sights don't seem to be available in the U.S. Any leads on where I can get some?

Well, I shoot with a Pentax LightSeeker scope on mine and don't use open sights. However, an acquaintance of mine that owns the Barnwood Arms in Ripon, Ca might be able to get the sights for you. I don't have his direct contact info handy, but here's a link to his store...you can probably talk with anyone there that might be able to help you out. They are a rep for many gun manufacturers including Benelli.http://www.barnwoodarms.com/

Another good semi auto rifle is the browning Bar they come in different models the feather light is a good light model. Has anyone picked up the new titanium model from browning it soo light you would not believe it. Its a bolt gun sticker price 1600 or so.

sorry shoot-it, my bad, I used fast-reply vs the add-reply from a previous question on when tag applications happen.
