Just curious what you guys will be carrying for dove or quail season. An old reliable, a new toy, or one that gets brought out once in a blue moon? I decided that I needed a new sxs double barrel for dove season so I ordered a CZ Bobwhite.

Clamp, I gotta line on a real nice used Left Handed Wingmaster in 12 ga. Hope to get it this week. If I do I will use it come Sept. 1st. If not, I will break out the old Ithaca/SKB over/under that was given to me by my Grandparents.

Nice! I've always wanted a wingmaster. I think a nice little 20 ga would be sweet.

I think the Flues was the nicest pointing of the Ithaca doubles. I have a plain Jane field grade 12. I bet that #2 grade is a sweety.

Since the brother wants to try the 20ga 870 before he buys one, and I won't be walking much, I'll continue to use Martha, my old 100 lb 12ga 1100 with her 30 (seems like 100) inch full choke barrel. She's about as reliable as they come. I will bring the 12ga Ithaca 37 Featherweight as a back-up though.

It's funny, you go to a dedicated shotgun forum like shotgun world and the Remington autos get knocked for blowing o-rings and all other sorts of derogatory remarks but I remember as a kid shooting my uncles 1100 for three dove seasons and never once had any sort of problem. It was a heavy bugger but one of the prettiest guns I ever hunted with.

I would feel guilty if I don't take out my Mossberg 500, that has been with me for 11 years now, but then again I would also feel guilty if I don't take out the Nova to get ready for Duck Season...Decisions...Decisions...Decisions.

Yep, like calling them 550's because they only work half the time :) . What I find funny though is how manufacturers advertise their new shotguns that shoot thousands of rounds without failure with no cleaning. Their point?! You put it away dirty so it can rust between outings? I don't. And imagine this, if you clean it after each outing (or 2) they work flawless. Myself, my dad, my best fiend, and my uncle have all had ours well over a decade each and never have I even heard of a sliced O-ring let alone a blown one. In fact the only time they fail is due to pilot error such as putting the gas piston back in wrong, or losing the O-ring while cleaning it. Neither of which is the gun's fault. But hey, to each their own. I often wonder though how many people that complain have actually shot them let alone owned them. Can you tell I love the old girl?I also figured out how they got their name 1100. It was a reference as to how much they weigh (pounds). They make a great stand still dove gun, but after 15+ years of packing her, I switched just last year to a 20ga 870 for chasing quail and chukar. Gun is lighter. Shot shells are lighter. And my old back is happier.

Nice!!!!! A .410 NID is darn near worth its weight in gold (well, maybe silver now that the dollar isn't worth anything) I'm an Ithaca man too, just like my dad. I have two NIDs, one Flues, and my dad has a Lewis. All 12s. I looked up the date of manufacture on my NIDs when I got them and if I remember right one was a 1926 and the other was a 1927 or a '28. Both are field grade guns and the the "newer" one has the stars like yours does. I love the cocking indicators on them. I sure wish American gun makers would still produce an affordable double.
