Hello, I cant offer you any advice as how to hunt them. But my wife and I were up in the area last week and saw two groups of birds . Both hens with at least half a dozen huge poults still in tow . They were moving into a small group of Aspen trees in a sea of sage . The birds were just walking down the dirt road . I personally have not hunted them but if I lived anywhere near Mono/Inyo county I definitly would . Long drive from San Diego for 1 bird . Good Luck !!

Ya its a long drive from corona too but its one of my dads bucket list hunts. And if he gets one he'll retire his 11-87 priemer. So Im willing to go anywhere. I was looking up Montana and Wyoming also,it looks like they dont have a draw and the limit is 2 per day and 4 in possesion.

If you do get drawn for the hunt PM me and I can tell you exactly where we saw those groups of birds . They were in an easily accessable area . Dont know if there are lots of birds there but its a good place to start when going in an area for the first time .

Lots of garlic, and other spices will help get it down, as well as a lot of beer. A friend shot one up behind Bridgeport resevoir many yrs ago while deer hunting. Tasted like crap to me. Probably should have aged in the fridge for a week or more. Easterners know how to prepare them.Without a dog, you'd be pretty lucky to find one. But it could happen. You might hook up with someone that's experienced in hunting them and has a seasoned dog that will help your dad with his list.
It's not about how many, it's about how.
Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog or gun

Maintain a balance of nature, use a beautiful gun when shooting a beautiful bird
