I was curious to know more about Elk hunting and hopefully someone can direct me to the right path. In my understanding before hunting Elk in Ca, you'll need to be selected in a special drawing. Once selected you'd purchase your tag and hunt. So my question is that do you need to be draw to hunt if you have access to a ranch? If yes, I've seen guide service for elk hunt allow hunter to take elks anytime of the year. Also with a deperdation permit does it include taking elks also? (sorry, i'd never hunt elks and was curious)

If you are going to be hunting, the DFG regulations are your friend. Know them and you won't get in trouble. If you don't know them, it can cost you big bucks.

you're right! cause I have access to a property and during the season the roosevlt elks from oregon will travel to nothern cal. The owner doesn't mine me harvesting a elk, but I'd just want to be legal and legit. Can't afford any tickets at this time..

Depredation permits for elk are not given. As for obtaining a tag it is a draw process and you would need to see what area your friends property is in and then apply for a tag for that region. I wish you luck but getting tags for elk come once in a blue moon.

Or you can pay for 4 or 5 guided hunts in others states for a similar amount.
