Went hunting on Saturday with my 77/22 Magnum, and the Honady V-Max. Two shots one at 50 yards, and one at 30 yards, both dead right there. The first Cottontail was hit in the heart lung area. the bullet did not exit but did pulp the insides. Number two took one right in the head............. EGADS !!! no head left. Both Bunny's came home for supper and are at this moment marinating as I type. I love my Wife, she cooks everything I bring home. Longboard

Then you need to look at the Henry Lever Action. It is the best lever action out there today. It also has a lifetime guarantee that if anything goes wrong, they fix it, no charge. It is true too!

I love .22 mag in my Single Six. I may end up with a rifle too.

While I love love my .22 mag rifle I bought about six years ago (when CCI 40gr hp's were only $6). A few years later (when factory ammo prices nearly doubled), I realized that I could now reload a .223 (with much more power and bullet options) for almost the same price. But, again, I reload, which makes a huge price difference. Just something to consider before buying one if you reload :1rock1oo: .What load did you used to use in your rifle longboard? I'm curious because I tried some 30gr Remington Accutips several years back, and while they didn't shoot horrible, they just didn't shoot quite as well as the 40gr CCI hp's. I do remember that the copper jacketed Remmy didn't expand nowhere near as violently as the 40gr copper plated lead CCI's. This is actually a good thing though for edible varmints. Have you ever shot rabbits with the lead plated bullets before? And if so, how was the damage with the V-maxes in comparison? May have to try them if they are a little friendlier on the meat.

Braz, how accurate are they? XX" @ XXX yds? Been thinkin' on a .44 mag levergun, and I like .22 mag. Bisley, I don't reload yet, but I will this summer, I see your point. If a .22 mag comes along, for a good price...right now I'm enjoying the heck out of my Six, and honestly, with a scope on it and a rest, I don't have a need for a rifle, it's quit accurate.40 gr semi-jacketed Winchester Super X hollow points in the gray box shoot accurately out of my Six and don't blow stuff up. The most accurate 22 mag ammo in both my single six handgun and Savage rifle has been Winchester's black box, Supreme 34 gr h.p. and CCI's 40 gr "Game Point". The box MUST say Game Point as there are several different 40 grainers by CCI.I'm sure the 34 grain bullet is more explosive. The game point is likely better for larger game like rabbits and such and maybe even coyotes at short range? However, I have no personal experience with either on actual game. Good LuckFrank

Bisley, I was using the 30 gr. V-Max from Hornady. My rifle is a 77-22 mag with a Nikon 3x9x40. This is the most accurate cartridge in the rifle so far, 1" at 100 yards. The Winchester gray box is #2, and CCI #3.On the first rabbit the bullet nicked his knee and blew up his guts, and I meen lights out. he looked as though he was alive and just lay staight down. Number two bunny took a head shot that really blew his head up, did not see a head when I walked up on him. If you use the V-max go for head shots. Longboard

Thanks, I'll definitely have to give them a shot. I feel like dummy right now, I love V-max bullets and Hornady, but until you posted this I had forgotten that they made them for the .22mag. :signs1242cn:

I was perusing one of their catalogs the other day and I want the long octagon barreled model, I just cant decide if I want a mag or a standard .22 lr.
Sharps, the rifle that made the west safe for Winchester!

Real tractors have two cylinders and hand clutches.

My rifle is mine, it isn't for sale, and I only give guns to people that I really like.

Im in the market for a 22 mag myself. Ive had a couple in the past but really wasnt impressed. whats changed is all the new bullits out there. they are aproching 22 hornet bulistics without having to reload. those tiny hornet cases have always been tough to handle. my son brought his with a good selection of bullits along last time we went out. hehad everything from 36 to 50 gr. I guess its time to try again. DR

Well, I"ve got the standard Henry HOO1, the Henry Golden Boy in 22lr and the Henry Golden Boy in 22mag. I wouldn't want to do without any of them. I love my Henry's.

I happen to love the glitz of the Golden Boy, but a lot of guys don't like it because of the drop in the stock. Changes the cheek weld. I think you will love the HOO1TM. That octogen barrel will make it look great and give it a bit of weight up front for a nice steady hold. DO IT!

Hey Braz, is it true what I hear about the teflon bushings in those things making them smooth as silk right from the get-go without really having to "break it in"? From what I understand also, the golden part is just a receiver cover so you see more gold and less screw heads. Is that true? If so, that must really look sweet, especially with an octagon barrel!

You cannot imagine how smooth that action is. If you pick one up in a gun store and try it, you will have to have one. I promise you. Yea, the receiver cover is not a real brass but it sure does look pretty. I love both of mine and would buy them again in a heartbeat!

Braz, that's exactly why I'm afraid to pick one up! And DesertDog, I couldn't think of a better reason for losing a gun, good job.
